This pizza peel was ideal for this, despite a couple of caveats. First, the good: It's just the right size for a half-pound ball of dough, specified in the book. It's nicely made, apparently hand-crafted, attractive, and a pleasure to use.
As for my caveats, the first is that, like other reviewers, mine was roughly sanded. However, I did run my fingers all over it and did not get a splinter, and the sanding job did not interfere with the function. It is just a contrast from the smooth perfect machine surfaces we're used to.
Also, like some cutting boards, it comes unfinished. You can oil with a food-grade mineral oil, avoiding olive oil or other oils that can go rancid. I used this oil: Snow River 8-Ounce Wood Oil .
I used the peel several times before I got around to finishing, and it worked fine. The rough surface was not an issue either before or after oiling it.
Other caveats: If you are using this for pizza, it is only large enough for a personal-size pizza, not a full-size pizza.Read more ›

Used my laser engraver to engrave this for a gift. The wood grain came out beautiful. Extremely well made and exactly what I expected.Published 3 months ago by Lndsyrbrts
the handle was much shorter than expected and the finish was pretty rough, like it could use a good sandingPublished 4 months ago by Lacy Williams
I ended up returning this, it just looked cheap and not particularly well constructed. It looked like it was made of plywood to me.Published 5 months ago by McNamara
Poor quality and odd shape. This is made from plywood.. Not a good value. Return process was easy though.Published 6 months ago by Melissa Rickman
I bought because made (by Amish) in USA but don't love that it's laminated wood (with glue I presume)...doesn't sound like what I want to make food with. Read morePublished 6 months ago by Lconky
Sanded acceptably smooth. With a little corn meal, the crust slides around very easily. Will be applying some cutting block mineral oil from time to time, but otherwise, a simple... Read morePublished 6 months ago by John E. Saare
Meh. There is NO way that this is Amish made. It falls way below the Amish workmanship that I'm familiar with. Read morePublished 7 months ago by Debbie
It does the job for me. No cracks (yet) or anything else to complain about.Published 7 months ago by David
I've only used it a dozen or so times for pizza and a few times for bread but I've been happy with it and it seems to hold up well.Published 8 months ago by RJ
