Amber St. George is living in hell basically. Every day waking up and barely remembering anything- who she is, who her fiance’ is, what her life is like. And her fiance’ Jax is a special kind of crazy. He swings wildly between sweet and evil. His eyes are at times empty. Her father seems just as awful- in fact, most of the people in this story are just WRONG. I really felt for Amber as she went through all of this. Every bit of headway she would make, was gone the next day. She had a strength in her throughout though. She was never made for the life she grew up in.
This was a story filled with twists and turns, and a huge, unexpected surprise or two later in the book! Also, the ending was interesting and I did not see it coming. I spent the whole day reading this because I couldn’t put it down, anxious to figure out what would happen next. This was mostly told from Amber’s point of view. Not a happily ever after, but not quite a cliffhanger either. I enjoyed this, even though it is definitely not my usual type of read. I look forward to book two, excited to see what else this author can possibly think up in this crazy scenario.
I did anticipate a cliffhanger as it was a "duet". HOWEVER, this one was worse because I was only at 63% in my kindle. I am not a fan of cliffhangers but this really could have been one book. I thought there was more going forward but it just stopped. The rest was full of "sneak peaks" at other stories by the author. I was also annoyed to see the publish date for book 2 at August 22, 2017 and it is still not out as of this review (October 31, 2017). I realize that things come up but do not publish a date until it is set in stone, or preferably has already happened.
If the abrupt ending at a very low percentage did not happen, this would have been a higher rating. I may adjust depending on how the follow up book comes out.
I loved starting with the prologue and getting a glimpse of what the story would be about. Also loved the flashbacks within the book and a chapter from Xander’s POV, I loved getting inside his head.
I found a few parts a little confusing as some things just didn’t add up for me as the story did jump a bit in places so you’re left wondering what happened.
Kylie has done such a great job with this story. It had me on the edge of my seat most of the time and yelling at these characters (that’s normal right?!). I’m dying to know more about what happens next
