Donna George Storey's writing is sensually vivid and intricately beautiful with rich details. Amorous Woman is an erotic story of a young woman's sexual experiences while living in Japan. There are moments where Lydia seems to be spiraling out of control, and other times where she is very deliberate in her little quests. She can be manipulative in getting what she wants. It is interesting how she maneuvers in such a subtle culture.

Amorous Woman is not simply erotica, as stimulating as parts of this marvelous work are. The book spans many topics from fascinating bits of Japanese culture to female sexuality and is notable for its insights into relationships and nightlife in Japan. Very few educational works examine these delicate, difficult to describe, aspects of Japanese culture as deftly as is done here.

Culture aside, Amorous Woman also offers a truthful airing of thoughts and emotions that guide a woman's flirting, choosing to enter into a relationship, choosing infidelity, and recognising the need to "move on". Lydia, the focus of this tale, is an intriguing woman who we get to accompany as she tumbles through all of these activities in her amazing life. This insider view is a treat and the sex is steamy hot.

It is unusual for me to be sympathetic to and supportive of a heroine who in the most concise reckoning, cuts a passionate, fearful, selfish, sensual swath leaving a trail of broken hearts. Well-sated broken hearts but broken nonetheless. I found myself liking Lydia very much and rooting for her to find what she is seeking.

Ms. Storey commands the reader's attention and offers an erotic experience to be savored. Amorous Woman stimulates, teaches and entertains. It should be read... thoughtfully. That is my personal gold standard. Highly recommended!

I am unacquainted with the Japanese tale on which this book is modeled. I chose it after getting part way through Fifty Shades of Grey but giving up on the story as overdone juvenile literature. Amorous Woman's best part was the afterword about the author. The afterword set me to imagining just how much of the story was the author's own experience both in Japan and elsewhere,and how much was her imagining what the students she has taught and faculty with whom she has worked might be thinking about her as she carried out her role as teacher

I was a complete novice to Japanese culture and customs before I read this book. What's so marvelous about this debut novel from Storey is that it's so lushly descriptive that the narrator's experiences are nearly palpable. The sensual delights are both sexual and seductive. Whether it's the cherry blossoms in Kyoto or a tantalizing meal or a potential lover's hands, Storey's talent for words and genuine appreciation combine to capture the reader and nestle them into the middle of the surroundings. The plot is smooth, the characters are both appealing and intriguing, and the novel as a whole sizzles. Not to be missed!

This book is real literature that comes from an author with significant talent, as witnessed in her terrific short stories as well. Looking forward to reading more.

My first love in the erotica genre. I read an excerpt online somewhere and ever since I've been looking for it. You cannot imagine the happiness when I finally found it.

This book is very well written. You can read all the other expert reviews for detailed analysis of plot and whatever, but I'm only going to say that this book ROCKS as an erotica.

Steamy scenes are what makes this a must - Read for any erotica lover. Her scene description is on point and she captures the very essence of the genre with it.

The only unfortunate thing is that she doesn't have many books under her name. Otherwise, I would've bought them all.
