Unfortunately, I've had to downgrade my original review. The problem is that the adapter doesn't correctly work with the Mac USB ports. If your system goes to sleep and then wakes up or restarts, the adapter will not correctly wake from sleep as well. You have to manually unplug and plug it back in, and then manually reconnect.
The bigger problem is that they don't acknowledge this as a problem of theirs. I contacted support via email and phone and was told:
- I had to disable sleep on my computer (!)
- It was a problem with my USB ports (no, I tried the adapter with multiple ports, some on my thunderbolt display, and I've had multiple drives from multiple manufacturers using the same ports that correctly sleep/wake just fine)
- It was a problem that Apple would have to solve (no, clearly not, since MANY other devices work just fine)
There were no driver updates to try.
So basically, if you're using this on a Mac, you have to manually replug it back in or disable sleep if you want to use it, and they have no plans to fix the issue. For me, sadly, it's going back.

A few tips/negatives:
- The network connection utility software is very decidedly not up to Apple standards of simplicity and good design. When connecting to a network where all you need to do is put in the network password, the screen that pops up is full of loads of configuration options which are mostly greyed out, and the password field is at the bottom. If you are someone intimidated by configuration, don't get overwhelmed, just look for the password field.
- The flashing blue LED is incredibly annoying. Duct tape, here we come!
- It looks like a giant robot bug, seriously.Read more ›
I gave it five stars because it is exactly as advertised, however it really needs one more antenna/stream to take full advantage of the AC wireless spec. I suspect that inside the case is a standard PCIe-mini card like you would find on a laptop and to my knowledge none of them yet support three streams.
To the people that had issues, I didn't use anything off the CD it came with. I went straight to their website and got the latest drivers and I haven't had a single issue.
I was excited about upgrading to AC gigabit speeds with a MIMO device so I shopped around and Amped looked to be my best bet. When I received the product I was VERY impressed with their packaging and documentation. They even have a nice software tool for analyzing your networks. That's were the love affair ended. I installed the typical articulating antennas with RPSMA coax connectors but noticed 2 issues right away. The antennas SMA nuts are extremely tight where they articulate to the antenna mast and the circuit board that the connectors are soldered to, was floating freely around in the case.
When I rotated the antennas into my desired alignment, one of the RPSMA connectors broke off of the circuit board! As the instructions request, I called Amped instead of Amazon but they said there is nothing they could help me with so I filed a return via Amazon. I received my replacement ACA1 and noticed that this product was properly assembled so the PC board did not float around in the case very much as the last one did. The antennas were still overly tight but assembly went fine.
I loaded the software and hooked it up and all worked just fine. The drivers integrated into Window 8.1 and showed up in my WiFi side bar as WiFi-4 (don't know why it chose 4). The ACA1 worked well FOR 2 DAYS!! Then it failed. The I tried using it under another log-in account then tried reloading the drivers and a new cable. Then I tried installing it on another laptop with a different operating system; DEAD.Read more ›

Amped Wireless Tech Support
Wifi reception has been a bit spotty from the router to my office and the USB3.0 capability suggested this higher-powered ac adapter would be an improvement. It was indeed an improvement over the internal antennae, but in my specific situation-- old solid house with copper wiring, I got better results using a Netgear powerline approach.
If you, however, live in a relatively new place, your walls will be thinner and your wiring likely aluminum-based and not as accommodating to the powerline option. If you're without AC and have USB3.0, this is a good option (and the only 802.11AC option for older Macs at this point).
