This review focuses on the R10000 rather than the SR10000. The difference is that one is a router, one operates as a repeater. Internally, I believe both to be essentially the same hardware.

I have installed hundreds of routers for my satellite customers over the years, and am always looking for the best product I can find. Until just recently, I had settled on the Buffalo brand of router, as they are reliable, inexpensive, and very powerful when compared to off-the-shelf boxes from local retailers.

By way of standards, the typical wifi router operates at about 32 milliwatts. The Buffalo runs at around 70+ milliwatts (depending on who you believe - some people say 250 milliwatts). And then the Amped appears on the market, supposedly running dual 600 milliwatt radios. This was too good to resist!!!

I've tried everything under the sun. 2000 milliwatt amplifiers, 1000 milliwatt amplifiers, numerous types of dual-radio wifi repeaters, and every external antenna type known to man. My test environment has the client 200 feet away inside a metal camper trailer. I put the equipment to be tested upstairs in our 3-story house, inside a room with exterior siding and a window that faces the wrong way. This is a VERY difficult shot to say the least, but then add in a row of trees and you have to wonder how a signal makes it to the trailer at all.

Rather than actual signal numbers, I'll just use Window's bars for this review. Since the focus is on wifi distance, I won't deal with CPU speed, available memory, or certain firmware features.

Here are the results, you need to be sitting down!!! All routers were tested at exactly the same spot, using out of the box equipment.

Linksys, Vikosmo, D-Link and Netgear: 1-2 bars, variable.

I would like to start off by saying I have made a ton of purchases (at least 50+ in the last 3 years) from Amazon (love them). I have only returned two other items of all those orders. Those were due to wrong purchasing the wrong size for clothing (my fault).

We needed to extend our WiFi signal recently due the new tablets my wife and I got for Christmas. I bought my wife an iPad 2, and she got me a 7" Kindle Fire HD. Since we both use our new tablets in our bedroom mostly (weakest signal), it was time to strength the signal. I was debating between getting a new router to replace our current D'Link 655 (A4, Firmware 1.35) or just getting an repeater/extender. I decided after doing a little research that a repeater/extender would do the job, and this would allow us better signal through the house.

So my experience,

Setup
It is true from other reviews the setup is rather easy. You take out the repeater, install the antennas, connect the repeater directly into your home PC with the cable provided, and then power up the repeater. From there just key in the IP address (192.168.1.240) follow the steps. Super easy, I was connected in about 5 minutes. I will give the company credit for this process, excellent work here.

Signal
After the setup, I unplugged repeater from my PC, and set it up down the hallway. It was actually not that far from the router, 15 feet maybe. The repeater powered up and boom picked up the router immediately. I monitored the signal from D'link setup screens roughly for an hour. The Signal was 100% constant, 117 Rate Mbps. I was ecstatic, couldn't wait to connect my Kindle.

Here is where the problems started, so I try connect my Kindle, and it keeps telling me authentication has failed.

Our office in the basement is where our modem/router is, so the signal on the second floor of the house is weak and spotty. This device now has a strong signal all over the house, even on the second floor.

Setup was actually quite simple- 10 minutes tops. You hook the device to a computer with 70% signal from the main router in the house, set up your passcodes, and then disconnect after a few clicks. Then I put it on top of the kitchen hutch, quite out of view but positioned perfectly to broadcast to 4000 SF of living space evenly. 10 minutes later, everything that connected to Wifi- our laptops, tablet, even our smart phones had strong wifi signal everywhere and I was streaming Star Trek on Netflix in the master bedroom where I was lucky to get email before.

Easy setup, no wires (you use a Cat-5 cable for setup and then you unplug and toss it in a drawer), strong signal everywhere, worked right out of the box- it is hard to find fault with that. If you are looking for an uncomplicated, true wireless solution for weak signal and dead spots in a house, this is a bullseye.

I have a 3600SF house. Our router is upstairs and our WiFi signal has always been poor on the main floor at the other end of the house. I got a Kindle Fire in November and it drove me nuts that I could not use it in the master bedroom. My desire for an improved signal finally overcame my hate of installing devices. I bought the Amped Wireless Extender SR10000. Deep down inside I thought I would never get it to work. I did have difficultly connecting to the Amped configuration page and was about ready to call customer service but my last attempt - disconnect WiFi and use a wireless connection to the Extender worked. Once I got to the configuration page I was good to go in less than 5 minutes. And now I have 4 out of 4 bars almost everywhere in my house. In one place it varies from 3-4 bars where before it was none or if I was lucky one bar. Download speed is terrific. The instructions are easy to follow as is the configuration page. I definitely recommend this Extender.

Update: It has been a year and the Amped Wireless Extender SR10000 is still going strong. The only downside is that it needs to be reconfigured if there is a power outage which does not happen that often where I live. I just installed a new router and the Amped is playing nice in the sandbox with the new router and still doing a great job of boosting the WiFi signal.

Update: It has been another year and the Amped Wireless Extender SR10000 is still going strong. As noted previously the only downside is that it needs to be reconfigured if there is a power outage which is an infrequent occurrence for me. I have not updated the firmware so perhaps this issue has been wholly resolved with a firmware update.
