The SCR-DI which has the "tone stack" circuit actually works well, but this pedal is so noisy as to be completely unusable (and no, there was nothing wrong with it, there's an unacceptable 15 dB difference in the noise floor between this pedal and their SCR-DI). If you want a decent EQ, either get the SCR-DI, or buy an MXR product. MAYBE it would be okay if you're running a 15" driver and you have no midrange drivers or horns as the noise might not be quite as noticeable.
It is not an effects pedal. If it is doing it's job, you shouldn't hear it doing anything. That's exactly what I wanted and that's what I got. You can't tell it's on, but everything is now evened out very nicely. Not sure yet if I am getting any added sustain, but I need to work it it more to verify if so or if not. Even so, my sound is much more even now and that's what I really was looking for. Really easy to use compared to others I have had. About 10 seconds and it was good to go. Great job Ampeg! I also have their Classic preamp pedal which is awesome. Great together!
I've been playing bass for nearly 40 years. I've tried other compressors (I own two other), and this is first one that works for me. For the price, you cannot beat it. Now I get it. Wasn't about to spend $300+ for something that might end up on the shelf with the others. I'm thinking optical is the way to go for bass. It's noticeable, adds a tad of mids. Super easy to use. Works with a 1-Spot AC adaptor.
Use it mainly as a treble boost for my Gallien Krueger MB115 Bass Combo. Perfect. No direct out needed. Great before my Nano Little Big Muff. Smooths out the sound nicely. with very little hiss.
