The AMP Bible is rather large (content-wise), so when I read in the description of this one, "Compact portable size", I decided to purchase it. I wanted a smaller version of what I have, to take with me to Bible studies, or church services. Unfortunately, this is actually larger and much thicker than what I have now. Before I sent it back, I checked it to see if it had more content than the one I have; maybe this explained why it was so much thicker.
What I found was this bible has 1701 total pages (with 192 of it in the Concordance), versus what I have now, which is 1898 total pages (with 192 in the Concordance, plus 178 paged Topical index, plus full color maps and ten blank pages to write notes on).
It must be the type of paper used to make this version of the Bible because Zondervan is the only publisher of the Amplified Bible, so there can't be any other reason for the difference.
Either way, if you are looking for a richer Bible experience, I highly recommend the Amplified Bible as an addition to your collection.
Update 8.9.2017: Also of note: Printing is wavy. Easily 1 in every 20 lines has a significant wave running the length of the line of text. There are also many ink blemishes on the pages. This is typesetting at the level of a pulp fiction or romance novel.
For example here is the famous verse John 3:16 from the Amplified to illustrate how much more clearly it makes the Bible to understand:
For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world, that He (even) gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies upon) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life
I highly commend this invaluable reference work to anyone who wants to understand the Bible better.
