With that in mind, leadership from the perspective of ministry is all about relationship. As a minister I do not lord my position over others, rather we are joint servants with Christ. This focus on relationship in leadership is the subject of the first chapter of Reiland's book. My favorite quote from this book is this, "We [Pastors] are fired up about accomplishing God's purpose, no matter what it takes. But people don't exist to help us accomplish the mission; they are the mission." This reminder is crucial to all who serve Christ in a leadership role. We must always be careful to never forget that our primary goal is to reach others with the love of Christ, and in order to do that we must be willing connect with people at deep relational levels. Reiland's book gives us a blueprint to follow towards that goal.
I received this book from Charisma House in exchange for my review.
This book is excellent for churches. In fact, I think it should be handed to new church leadership and staff when they take a job with a church, but this book has great value to the everyday business person as well. I think this book is perfect for every business person that is in leadership, or seeking a leadership role. There is a huge gap in ethics in business and this book can help fill that gap and begin the process of returning business to the standards of the past that have been forgotten.
Not completely as an aside, his interest in encouraging his team by expressly highlighting their strengths in A.L. says something about the author.
I was so impressed with the benefit of this book; I used it as a core to a curriculum for teaching business leaders how to mentor.
