From the Manufacturer
Developed exclusively for the PlayStation2 by Harmonix Music Systems, Amplitude is a fast-paced rhythm-action game that allows players to test their skills in mixing and remixing hit songs by shooting musical notes in various vibrant musical environments in both off- and online gameplay. Via the Network Adaptor (Ethernet/modem), the gateway into the world of online gaming, Amplitude provides a unique, one-of-a-kind online musical forum for players of all skill levels to compete and collaborate with more than 25 songs.
Following up on the great line-up of bands in Frequency, Amplitude expands the music roster with a diverse and eclectic mix of genres including songs and video content from David Bowie, blink 182, Pink, Herbie Hancock, Run-D.M.C., Dieselboy, Slipknot, Weezer, P.O.D., Garbage, Quarashi, as well as other major recording artists. Surrounded by interactive environments with stunning graphics and video that are tightly synchronized to each artist's song, players are tasked to recreate their favorite songs in a spaceship that shoots and captures vocals and instruments such as drums, bass and guitar. In addition, players have the opportunity to create custom remixes as well, in single- and multi-player modes.

When you begin to understand the flow of Amplitude, it's amazing to see the progress you can make once you're really into it. The difficulty spectrum going from Easy to Insane is a perfect ramp to the seemingly impossible. You'll drum on the L and R triggers and have NO idea how your brain was even able to comprehend that set of notes.
If you still own an PS2 and are even slightly into these kind of games, there's no reason you shouldn't pick this up by any means necessary. It's the only reason I still own one, and it's the only game of this genre I've consistently gone back to.
Then Harmonix brought us "Frequency", and it was very interesting. Yet something intangible was missing from the gameplay.
Then came Amplitude, a sequel to Frequency. Perfect execution. Smashing graphics. Great songs. Easy for new players. Unbelievably challenging for experienced players. Multiplayer modes (both online and offline) are fabulous. This game is serious, unique fun.
Maybe you're holding out hope for a music-oriented game that doesn't leave you disappointed. Or maybe you've tried "Guitar Hero", developed by the same brilliant folks, and want more of the same sort of genius. Or maybe you're just looking for something different. If this describes you, look no further. Buy this game now!
If you like guitar hero type games, this is a great game for you. It doesn't require anything but a normal controller. It is full of late 90's rock/rap.
I highly recommend this game. Some folks have compared this to the first installment of this series, Frequency, but it is heads and shoulders above any thing before it! Very innovative and very fun!
