Mostly in those works, the comic-book-style Agents-of-Shield idea prevails, but in this novel the drama is provided by the factions within the group, who don’t always agree, and, thankfully, have a host of human failings.
The main character, Josh, is well-developed, growing from a clueless teen searching for meaning in his troubled life to a not-so-accepted recruit under the watchful eye of a stern mentor and sometime kook.
I enjoyed the book for its quirkiness, and the way it handles the paradoxes and the other challenges of time travel (which, as I know from experience, is difficult to do effectively.)
This is a Book One of a series. I’m going to look forward to Book Two, and so will you.
