Both experienced data warehousing / business intelligence (DWBI) practitioners and beginners will benefit from reading The Analytical Puzzle. I came away with new ideas and perspectives. The book covers both the why and how of DWBI. Understanding the why will help you to develop the business case while understanding the how will help you to build a successful data warehouse.

State of the art DWBI requires knowledge of current technology: big data, data warehouse appliances, predictive analytics, cloud computing, data visualization and mobile devices. These topics are all addressed in the book - in addition to fundamental topics like data modeling, data integration and project management.

Throughout this book, the diagrams are very well done - they are very easy to read and support the points made in the text. The author has done a great job of including helpful tips, traps and learning resources throughout the book. In addition, I find the writing style easy to follow. If you're working on a data warehousing or business intelligence project this book could be your lifesaver. Check it out.

In the fast paced world of data storage, usage and value creation through converting data into information for decision making, requires understanding of how the underlying disciplines and methodologies interplay. This book provides insights into the “puzzle” that constitutes various disciplines such as Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence Analytic, Data Governance—the puzzle which is critical for the managers, business analysts, data professionals and IT technicians to shape data storage and usage in their organizations. The author has done a great job in providing structured frameworks, principles, architectures and road-maps for implementation that provide an easy to understand building blocks of the world of data management. I like the case studies which enhance the knowledge through real-world scenarios and examples. This book is a must read for the corporate professionals—both business and technology—particularly who ware involved in the management of data resources.
