These things are solid. Major step up from the standard issue wire stakes. Have only tested a couple times, but they're holding up great and I anticipate plenty of trips ahead. While they hold their shape well in the ground, the tops are visibly chewed up from hammering in. I use a metal shovel or rock to drive them in, so perhaps a rubber mallet would be gentler. Still, damage seems mainly cosmetic, mostly chipping of the paint. They'll be able to handle plenty more abuse. I went with the gold color to ensure they'd be easy to spot in the dark, of course the main killer is the guy line itself which is hard to spot in the dark.
Customer service from Thor Outdoor has been pretty good too. I haven't had a problem, but they were diligent in their follow up to ensure my satisfaction, and actually responded to a question I asked via email within hours, which is more than most companies will do. I'm confident they'll be there to help me should I ever have issues with the product. So far so good. Will buy from them again.
Spend a few extra dollars for a quality stake. You'll thank yourself the next time you pull another bent stake out of the ground, which is basically bound to happen after 3 or 4 uses. The structurally-sound 3 prong design and light weight of these puppies alone is worth the spend. You're not even spending more money in the long term when you consider the length of service of this vs. cheap wire stake. Do it.
I used these for multi-day trips on the Appalachian Trail, primitive camp sites in Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina. I have used them in all types of soil, including soil fulls of rocks, roots, gravel, as well as sandy soil. I've found these stakes go into the ground better and faster than traditional aluminum Y stakes. So far, I haven't bent a single one, despite using a hatchet or rocks (whichever was closest) to pound some in as needed, and despite hitting rocks and roots. I really like the reflective rope ties; they've saved me from a couple of stubbed toes at night - they really shine in any kind of head or hand light. I've found that between the notches and the holes for the rope that I can easily, quickly, and firmly tie down almost anything. They held everything down firmly even in the hours of heavy rains and wind I experienced at times above 6000' on the Appalachian Trail.
I can strongly recommend these stakes/anchors based on real world experience in some harsh conditions on the trail. I will definitely buy more myself to have in reserve, and am recommending them to all of my backpacking and hiking friends and acquaintances.
Going to order another set for the kids tent.
