Sharp edges along handle make using it uncomfortable

I really wanted to like this bowl. My wife loves these pouring glass bowls, and since her previous one broke I got this one for her for Christmas earlier this year. She opened it and was happy and we proceeded to wash it and then make pancakes or something that morning. She didn't complain, but the next time I went to use it, I noticed some very sharp edges along the handle, where the molten glass poured out between the molds during manufacture of the piece. They had trimmed them off somewhat and had filed them down somewhat so that you won't cut your hand on it easily, but it is sharp and uncomfortable, and and if using for more than a few minutes it does make my hand red and tender. I've debated getting my dremel out and sanding it down, but haven't wanted to risk compromising the integrity of the bowl yet. I still may, though--it's right on the line between being annoying and being annoying enough to do something about it.

Not Anchor Hocking Quality

I don't know what to say about this batter bowl other than it's not the Anchor Hocking quality I know. I have so many pieces from Anchor, Libbey, Pyrex etc and never have I bought something with such poor quality. The bowl has scratches, and mars all over. The bowl glass weld/ seam is very sharp. The lip around the top of the bowl is scratchy in some areas. My gut tells me that this is probably counterfeit.

I only use this bowl to ferry microwaved hot water from my kitchen to my shave gear in the bathroom, and the sharp parting line on the underside of the handle at the top makes for an uncomfortable tote. A Dremel tool with a sanding drum installed made quick work of smoothing this area out, so I'm keeping it, but methinks a bit more QC is in order here.
UPDATE: Does not pour liquids well at all. It may be fine with batter, but not water. No matter how careful I am, water ends up all over the counter. Likely, a Goodwill gift in the near future. My Pyrex works just fine with water.

Bowl exploded and shattered while sitting in dish drainer alone. Had not been used since day before. Very poor reviews. Found Pyrex to replace. Lots of reports of Anchor products shattering for no reason. Should be taken off the market.

I have been using this to make Hummingbird food and need it to be a 2 cups water to 1 cup sugar ratio. I checked the measurements with an accurate measuring cup and it was off. 7 cups of water goes almost to the 8 cup mark. The other problem I have is it's almost impossible to pour liquid out without it spilling down the front of the batter bowl. If it was just water it wouldn't be so bad but sugar syrup is a sticky mess. I've kept it because I needed something large with a handle, but wish it didn't have these problems.

Was devistated when my old one got hit by a dropped dish and broke after over 10 years of heavy use. This is one of the most frequently used items in my kitchen. Great size for so many things. I use it to microwave rice, measure large amounts of liquids for soups/stews, making iced tea, mixing batter, making sauces, blended drinks, storing leftovers, you name it. It's sturdy, clearly marked with numbers that wont wear off, and wont stain or react with food. My initial one was the best $2 I ever spent at a yardsale, and when it broke, I was so relieved to find out it still existed.

Con: Might spill a little when pouring into a bottle.
Have a line as shown on the image (But I think it’s to to seal the glass)

Overall, I would recommend this product because it will make your life easier for those people who is using it with a nut milk bag. I used it to make almond milk and it was easy to pour it into each bottle. The only down side is that while pouring, the glass might be too heavy. So I kind of drop a little on the outside of the bottle. Not an issue for me.

Can't beat it for mixing batter or eggs

Just about anything you would mix with a whisk is easier and neater to do in one of these bowls. The deep roughly parabolic shape keeps the ingredients down in the bowl and in the work zone. The handle makes it easy to manipulate and hold steady, and the wide spout makes it easy to pour when you're done. Pancake batter, scrambled eggs, beaten eggs whites, whipped cream, feeding the sourdough starter, cake batter, custard pie fillings, dressings, uncooked sauces, ... this is the bowl I reach for first.

They're microwave safe so you can melt butter or warm up liquids. They're dishwasher safe so they're easy to clean. The only negative is that like any glassware they will break or chip if you accidentally whack them with something, and that'll send you on a mad scramble to get a replacement ASAP.

Perfect for fermenting Kerfir

I brought 2 of these for fermenting Kerfir. They are perfect for this as they are wide mouthed so let the grains get plenty of air.

I wanted a large vessel for the fermenting, so I wouldn't have to drain the Kerfir off every day (I'm lazy!). What I do is half fill the vessel with milk on day 1, add more milk on day 2 (filling to the top of the jug and stirring with a spoon so all the added milk mixes with the fermented milk) and then drain off my yummy Kerfir on day 3. I find working with the grains in this way makes for delicious Kerfir of a consistent quality every time. I have been fermenting this way very successfully for several months now.

I keep the jug in a box on my counter top with the top closure flaps slightly held open to allow air to get in. Kerfir definitely ferments better in the dark.
Darkness is needed to prevent degradation of vitamins and inhibition of the culture. Milk is intended to pass from the mother directly into the child and has not developed protection against light.

For those just wanting these to use as a large jug, you will not be disappointed by the quality. They are made from good quality glass and have clear easy to read volume measures. The jug also has a slight dark tint which is attractive.

It's a pyrex jug. I use it to make porridge in a microwave - the porridge foams up while cooking so you need a big bowl even for a small amount. I used to use a bowl but this has a handle and a spout so it's better for that purpose. It's heavy though. Also porridge sticks to it but then porridge sticks to everything.

My parents used to use a plastic one but I get nervous using plastic for cooking, and worry about chemicals etc leaching into the food. No such worries with this.

God this review sounds like Alan Partridge showing us round his kitchen. I'm really an interesting person, honestly.

This jug is great for making batters (pancake/Yorkshire pudding/cake) as the size allows plenty of room for whisking and mixing, you can then pour batter directly into tins or onto frying pan etc, I also use it in the microwave to cook scrambled eggs, It is quite heavy but for me that's good as it doesn't move when whisking. It also cleans up easily in the dishwasher and as the measurements are embossed in the glass and not printed on as many measuring jugs are they will not wash off in the dishwasher. It Is an American brand and shows cup measures. (1 cup = 8 fl oz)

This really is a large jug! I was struggling from the photo to get an idea of size (something to compare it with in a photo would be good). Yes, it is quite heavy, but it would have to be at this size. I wanted it so that I had something to measure the rising of my bread dough. I usually make dough using 1 kilo of flour and this jug comfortably accomodates this quantity of dough. It is very difficult to accurately judge when a ball of dough in a bowl has doubled in size, with this jug you can see exactly where the dough comes to when it goes into the jug, and know for certain when it has doubled. The other fantastic thing is, that because it is clear you can also see the development of the dough, I can see the bubbles forming and know whether the bread is developing that nice, airy, holey texture.
The other reason I love this jug is because it has raised measures and not printed ones. All the glass jugs I own eventually lose the measuring marks and become pretty useless for what they were designed for.This means that I have to replace a perfectly 'good' jug to be able to measure again, which seems to me to be very ecologically wasteful.These measures are permanent, so unless I manage to break it (and as it is a very sturdy jug, this seems unlikely) it should be of useful service for many, many years.
Aside from breadmaking it is a very useful jug. It is big enough to use as a mixing bowl, it is great for recipes where you need large quantities of liquid and would have to fill a standard sized jug several times and I have even managed to fit it in the bottom of my small fridge. I am very pleased with this jug.

I have just received my Batter Bowl, Firstly I must congratulate U Stores on there packing 1st class was wrapped in double bubble wrap, spent a good 5mins fighting with that, the item in the box was surrounded and tightly packed with blown up plastic wrap,I had fun bursting that, and was also delivered on time. The Bowl !!! FAB U LOUS I now have trouble using the conventional bowl (i.e. no handle) so for me this is a godsend I shall have many a happy baking day using "my" new toy It is well balanced and made of good quality glass. Will last me for years ( if I am careful....... )
I recommend this product 100%..Go for It Girls.....
