Review

"I don't think you will find a better bargain anywhere than this e book purchase of Ancient Awakening. If you are like this reviewer, you can't help but be caught up immediately in its action packed plotting and its wry humor.  To put it simply, it is one hell of a fun read that you won't be able to put down." - HorrorWorld.org

Well.

i haven't read a real non-picture book in a while. But, after getting a copy of this book i briefly read the first 2 or 3 paragraphs, however, by the last sentence, i had to keep reading this book. The character is awesome, the pace of the book did not bore me at all. I refused to sleep last night and read the entire book when i got home from work. The story took me to a very dark place filled with awesome characters and i found myself actually laughing out loud to some of the things the characters said to one another. the situation, although grim, the book was really a great fun ride. The only other time I have ever had this much fun reading something is when i would read Hellboy.

If you love all things macabre, demonic, with a little bit of Dr Who and Hellboy humor thrown in for good measure, then this is something you will love. I really can't wait for the second part of this book to come out. I hope they make this into a movie, because the characters are awesome! I had amazing nightmares after reading this book and it sparked my creativity instantly like no other novel has before. A MUST READ!!!!

I recently read this book after reading a few less than stellar books on my kindle. About half way through the book I realized just how bad some of the books I had read were. This book was a joy to read, never slow, always entertaining. Affter finishing it I was trying to recall a book that blended horror and humor this well and I came to the conclusion that I have never read one that did. The closest I could come up with was Origin by J.A. konrath but where that book failed to maintain the balance throughout this book succeeded. I will blind buy the next book by this author and will not care what he charges, I feel like I took advantage by only paying a buck for one of the best books I have read in a decade.

So many 5 star reviews of this book... With all due respect to the author, this is objectively NOT a 5 star book.

Frankly, it's probably not quite a 3 star book; it's doesn't quite reach "okay" status. It might be a bit better than the 2 stars I gave it, but I can't give half stars and someone has to balance out the over-inflated reviews.

For one, this novel is very poorly edited. Frequent grammar mistakes are both distracting and annoying. But I can forgive those more than the author's frequent lapses into what I can only describe as "undergraduate" level writing--something a competent editor should have caught and suggested be rewritten. Saying someone sounds "like Ms. Swan from MAD TV" is pretty lousy description; it only makes sense if you've ever seen Ms. Swan on MAD TV. If that were the only example, I'd be nitpicking, but the book is fraught with similar samples of unpracticed, unpolished writing. And once you start noticing them, it's hard to notice anything else.

The dialogue is...not especially good either, and while the characters aren't completely flat, they are, for the most part, simple archetypes who never do anything to break their molds.

But it's not all bad. The story itself has its moments, and if you like action you could pick a lot worse. Despite what some other reviewers have said, it's not particularly funny, but it is full of slavering demons and pop-culture references, so if those things make you happy, by all means get this book.

It's intended to be mindless fun, and I think it succeeds at that; I just like my mindless fun to be executed a little bit more professionally and a little less "I published this myself on the Internet."

taking a familiar setting, and instilling that little bit of terror that can still make you run up the cellar stairs and slam the door behind you is something that this story excels at. i read this in one sitting, and have been eagerly awaiting the rest of the story (write faster!!).

a great mix of humor, horror and hospitals. not something you can say every day.

I bought Ancient Awakening because of the price and the good reviews, and got more than I expected. This is one of those stories that should be a movie, but only if it lives up to the book. Unfortunately, the author doesn't seem to have published anything else at the time of this review.

Ancient Awakening wastes no time getting to the action, with some comedy and a lot of monsters thrown in. The author even does some reinvention of traditional monster folklore that works surprisingly well.

Get the sample and form your own opinion, then buy it and write a review about how good it is. You will - trust me.

This Kindle book found me by accident and I am glad it did. Do not judge this book by the small cost, judge it for its contents. This well written story has horror, thrills, and frequent well placed moments of humor. I am looking forward to more from this Author! Thanks

Great read with surprising amount of engagement. As soon as I finished I had to get online to check if the next book was available. Plus you have to love any book with a reference to Chuck Norris in it:

"He needed a gun. A big gun, and a SWAT team, and an army, and maybe Chuck Norris."

For an action/horror/comedy mix I thought it had just enough comedy to be funny and yet not detract from the overall feeling. I'll be interested to see how the next one turns out.
