I wanted to learn more about the ancient religious practices of the very diverse Gauls and ways in which modern devotees work with that information. Instead I got a history of the online Gaulish Reconstruction polytheist clique, links to other people's blogs to learn more about almost everything mentioned, no background on the Gaulish cultures through history, and an ADF ritual outline. If it cost $5 I'd give it 3.5 stars, but I expect more than an hour read for this price. There's very little information about a handful of deities, some of whom were never worshipped by the Gauls, but only found in Briton. I was surprised by how much UPG was included, as it could easily influence readers new to the topic. It would have been much more interesting to read about WHY the Gaulish version of virtues were chosen, WHY the author associates Maponos with being killed by a boar, WHY the author needs a Gatekeeper deity when there's no evidence that the ancient Gauls did, or WHY Brigantia is a necessary hearth Goddess, as she is the Goddess of a powerful tribe in the British mountains. The entire WHY he has come to these conclusions is left for the reader to research their own, which makes it good only for some possible resources. There's a lot of space dedicated to a calendar that no one understands, with his arbitrary choices for how to use it. A LOT of space is devoted to Gaulish words for societal structure that he agrees have no real use today, but could be changed to mean titles of groups and their members. The cosmology is basically that of any ADF Indo-European people with some guesses.
There's no diversity in the ritual outline to match the information we have about the many different regions of Gaul and the migration east. There's no information about the diversity in how other Gaulish polytheists understand the cosmology, how to worship and their resources. The author does to his credit state that the book is just his version of the religion, but for this to be a well rounded introduction to Gaulish reconstructed polytheism, it seems that it'd have to be an anthology. He offers little bits, especially in his knowledge of the language, and names people whose work I really wish were included. With so many links, it really should have been a website.
If you are hoping to understand the Gaulish peoples, their wide ranging religious practices, their many deities, and learn a Gaulish, not-ADF, ritual outline, this is not the book for you. However, it's the ONLY book and at least the information is mostly accurate and he is clear about his own UPG and choices. There's just so much missing and frankly, you'd be better off reading the resource material, which are mostly websites with about the same amount of information. The only book that provides a lot more insight from a historical perspective is the anthology Steel Bars, Sacred Waters, which I'd suggest as a foundation with this book (if it's half-price), Sir Barry Cunliffe's the Celts, then some blogs, and a lot of academia.edu papers as you go deeper.
Am grateful that SOMETHING is available, but dearly hope that this is only the beginning.

If you're looking for an introduction to Gaulish Polytheism, including clear guidance to start practicing, this is your book. It's short, easy to read, & filled with well-researched information. Starting with brief history & theory, the author quickly moves into introduction of the Gods. The book wraps up with a template for ritual that is sound in structure. Theory/History, Facts, & Praxis are consolidated into what could have been a massive academic tome, based on the author's expensive knowledge & experience.

This introductory book to Gaulish Polytheism covers the basics that people need to not only get started in the Gaulish traditions, but also gives resources that one can look into to expand their studies and groups that you can get involved with to dive deeper into your practices. It covers basic concepts and principles, language pronunciation, and a small list of the more popular Gaulish gods (there are over 200, not all are in here), and a basic ritual outline that one can use to get started. Lastly, the author also includes his personal experiences and UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis) to the work to hep give the reader some context for the work. Segomâros Widugeni has been part of the pagan community for over 17 years and is one of the leading American sources for Gaulish Polytheism. You are not going to find much better out there outside of hard academic sources in archaeology and history.

If you have any interest at all in the native religious practice of the celtic tribes of Gaul (France, Iberian Peninsula, Switzerland, parts of Germany, etc.) then I highly suggest this book. It's written extremely well, a trait that is in very short supply in this genre of books. Widugeni is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and the book's information is meticulously cited throughout. Segomaros is also very knowledgeable on the academic understanding of Indo-European culture and practices allowing him to show where many ideas came from and connections to beliefs from the various cousin cultures to Gaul (such as germanic beliefs). I particularly enjoyed his chapters on their calendar system and cultural structures. If you have an interest on the practices of Gaul, this is a great place to start.

Ancient Fire may be a small book, but it's packed with information. It's well researched as well as containing the author's UPG (unverified personal gnosis) which he clearly labels as such. He starts with the basics and history and moves into an introduction to the Gods of Gaul. He also talks about sacred spaces and rituals, the calendar and the holidays, as well as social structure. He also includes a pronunciation guide to help get through the Gaulish language. The reader is left with the tools to start exploring their own relationship with the Gods of Gaulish Polytheism. Highly recommend for anyone seeking that path. It's an invaluable resource!

I felt this book is an excellent primer for Gaulish practice. However it does not bring it all together in a coherant way that says here is how you do it and here is what to expect. I was hoping for more actual rituals and discussion about the Gods.

Helpful and informative, this book gives one a solid background on the many facets of Gaulish Polytheism. I highly recommend it to any truly interested in practicing this religion. With decades of experience, Segomâros Widugeni has delivered the first book of its kind. It is no understatement to say that this book is truly the gold standard.
