DK's Ancient Rome book is definitely captivating. It's worth the read even if you don't love history. I didn't until I really began to relearn history. I never had a true full history class; so I'm digging up random books on it. DK has a variety of bite sized 'text' on hundreds of topics. You'll love the illustrations, interesting artifacts of Ancient Rome, really see what people wore, did, ate, and acted. It is condesed well written, and worth the buy for your adult shelf or child's shelf. Decent read.

Are there any "bad" DK books?? This one is great...lots of good pictures with information for the whole family. This is one of the books we purchased for our children and grandchildren in preparation for a family trip to Rome and southern Italy. Hopefully, as they read it, they'll start to get a feel for this wonderful city and will begin to develop a list of "must sees" as we spend a few days there. Even if you're not planning to visit, it's a great book to browse through and wish you were there.

We used this book as a supplement to our homeschool history class. I basically bought it for the photos and it was just what we needed to give the kids a good visual of ancient Rome. I am sure we will refer to it again and again over the next several years. A good one to have on your shelf!

DK is an outstanding publisher. I have yet to cast eyes on anything produced by them that does not have gorgeous photography, excellent copy accessible to young readers but interesting to any age, and beguiling artwork. This book is oriented to someone who wants to know about how ancient Romans lived, the nuts and bolts of their civilization and lifeways. It would be wonderful for a first- or second-year Latin student or someone studying ancient history. It is not a travel book with pictures of famous architecture and art. In fact, I had to return it because I had ordered it for someone who wanted that type of travel/picture book.

Which reminds me to mention Amazon’s amazing return policy. Their customer service is just unbelievable. I have always received generous help in cases of error, mine or theirs, and never yet been refused a request for assistance, no matter the circumstances. And I have been ordering from Amazon since the days when they gave bookmarks and sticky pads with their book orders. Long live Amazon! Long live DK!

In general I like DK books. This one was a little basic , and there were some things that I wanted to find and did not see about Rome. But what was covered was pretty well covered, and I liked the pictures used to illustrate.

My 8-yr old grandson really enjoys these books. Well written and accurate information for young minds. He has also read Ancient China, Ancient Greece, World War II, and Ocean. I recommend these books to anyone interested in learning.

Full of great information and pictures, just like the other books in this series. My son loved it; helped prepare for our visit to Rome.
