Generations of visitors to southern Spain have marveled at the achievements of the Moorish conquerors. This documentary takes a look at the legacy of the Moors, including great buildings, peaceful gardens, achievements in science and medicine and how the Muslims of Andalusia affected the music which today characterizes southern Spain.
This film focuses on the Moorish legacy of Andalusian region of southern Spain. Although there is a very visible influence on architecture to be seen in many places the other lasting positive aspects are less clearly presented. The narrative comes across as an attempt to make the occupation of Spain by Muslims in medieval times a positive event and the scholarly commentators definitely sound biased in that direction. It's interesting though and worth watching.
I just got back from a year abroad, living in Granada, Spain. This video brought me back to the incredible culture that was influenced by the Moors. While most of the time I was watching this I was feeling so sad that I was no longer there, it also reminded me of how incredible and underrated Spain really is. The history of Spain is something everyone should learn about, and this video really does a great job of illustrating that.
