Brian D. McKnight is Associate Professor of History at the University of Virginia's College at Wise. He is the author of Confederate Outlaw:  Champ Ferguson and the Civil War in Appalachia (2011) and Contested Borderland: The Civil War in Appalachian Kentucky and Virginia (2006) for which he won the James I. Robertson Literary Prize in 2005.James S. Humphreys is Assistant Professor of History at Murray State University in Kentucky. He is the author of Francis Butler Simkins: A Life (2008) and has been recognized as an accomplished teacher and talented scholar.
