Yes, some of Singer's points have been superseded by time & the very changes in culture she was exploring. But this remains a seminal book in dealing with the remarkable expansion of sexual & gender definitions in society. The author, a noted Jungian analyst & writer, goes far beyond just the topical & the surface aspects of her subject, choosing to examine the human Psyche & Unconscious. How much of our sexual being & identity is determined by genes, and how much by cultures? (Yes, it's the old "Nature vs. nurture" question coming into play.) How much is determined by forces we're not consciously aware of, and how much by our deliberate choosing? And what does all this portend for the future? For those who wonder likewise, this fine book is an essential starting point -- most highly recommended!
