The storyline was excellent and full of angst, but not so much you start hating the characters. I love how I even started to like Ace, but I'll never willingly admit that out loud. This book has action, suspense, thrills, chills, love, and heartbreak. There are even some tense moments where you really wonder about why your favorite character took a nosedive into coldheartedville and does the ultimate suckerpunch to your heart. I love this book. And a HUUUUUUGE shoutout to my boyfriend for making an appearance. *Waves frantically* Hi Baddon!
I started this book loving both Phoenix and Ace, but wanting Mena with Phoenix. I still love them both, but not happy with Phoenix's actions towards the end of the book. I am hoping this is just part of a bigger plan here to save Mena/Ace and the crew.
I loved the introduction of other witches, vampires and even demons into cast of characters. I felt it spiced things up a bit in this fast paced book.
I was so glad with the change in narrator as I felt it fit the actual story better since it was Ace's story so to speak.
I'm looking forward to the next installment.
FTC Disclosure: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
(originally posted on Audible.com)
Mena, now known as Andromeda or Andra, as Ace likes to call her, is fighting a constant battle with her heart and her body. Her heart still belongs to Phoenix, but her body craves Ace’s touch.
Now bonded, she agrees to return to Las Vegas with him to meet his pride. The bond is driving them both mad. Andra misses Phoenix, Ace wishes for her to forget about him and move on…with him. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
The bond took that choice away from us, Andra,” he said softly. “I’m sorry that you’re not happy here with me. I’m sorry that I don’t have a perfect past. I’m sorry that I’m not good enough for you. Above everything else, I’m sorry that you refuse to love me…because I think that we could have a great love together, a love so great that people would talk about it for centuries.”
Meanwhile, Ace is harboring a very dangerous secret that he’s afraid if Andra finds out, he will lose her forever. Andra knows that he is hiding something but he blocks her out of his mind before she ever has a chance to discover the truth.
There are several new characters introduced in this book. Slade, Ace’s beta. Clay, the lead singer of Salacious Limerick, Andra’s favorite band. Clay’s sisters Embyr and Rainey and Deus. Rainey’s mate.
I admit, I was distraught when she chose Ace. He was a straight-up dick to her at one point. Sigh…but he did mange to warm me over…some.
Insert Phoenix and her pack back into this equation and yep, you guessed it. Trouble in paradise.
In the end Phoenix managed to screw up royally, in hopes to win Mena’s affections that even I had to question his motives. This one is a real nail biter. I can’t wait to read the next one!
Favorite Scene: Phoenix and the coffin…hehe.
I feel I love with him before I met you, before you and I bonded. True love never dies. I believe that, and I believe what Phoenix and I have is true love.”
Would've been a 5++++. I have to say I'm
Really disappointed the way it turned out. I know you can't expect a happy ending every time....but.. I loved the bond between Andra and Ace, loved the way their relationship developed. I thought I loved Mena and Phoenix, but at the end I truly truly disliked Phoenix, no, I hated Phoenix. Really wish the book ended differently especially after the whole spell and amnesia thing. Going to bed quite pissed off. That aside, I have to say the book was written great. Not a dull chapter plenty of action, laughs, tension, sex, and just a bunch of great characters. Kirstie better get to writing really fast cause I need to see where this goes.
