Top Customer Reviews
Unit does NOT have an ON/OFF switch. You must unplug to power off, but it does accept Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot.
Previous reviews indicate the unit runs hot. That is NOT my case after 6+ hours of constant use.
So far so good.
After playing with the unit for a couple of days, I mounted it behind my 47" Vizio that's on the wall. My biggest concern was that this device would be running constantly 24/7 as I started to fish a power cord through the wall to supply power to the unit. Then a light bulb went off in my head. I took the supplied mini to full USB cable, plugged the mini side in the unit and the full side in my TV's USB port.
Now when my TV's is turned on the unit gets it power and boots up. When I turn the power to my TV off, the unit powers down. No need for the power supply.
The dual processors are super fast and I've downloaded most of the apps from google play that I have on my tablet and they run very well on here - and look very clear and crisp on my 50" LCD. Once you get used to using a mouse with the Android OS it gets better - strange playing Angry Birds with a mouse - but the graphics look great. Netflix streams in HD too and the video quality is very crisp and clear. Other video apps like HBOGO and MAXGO work very well streaming but the quality isn't too great on the picture - I'm sure that's due to not all of the content from these providers being in HD like most of Netflix titles. Google Chrome looks great and the web surfing is extremely fast - the newest flash player is already installed too along with HTML5.
All in all I would recommend this to anyone wanting to try it out - definitely worth it - I'm sure you can do a lot more with these things too - just haven't had the time to play with it too much. Other reviews also stated that the unit gets warm after only a short period of time - guess that got fixed with the ventilation holes as I haven't had any issues with it even getting warm at all after leaving it on continuously.
The MK808B is as easy to initialize as any Android tablet. You do have to set the date and time; it comes with the date 1/1/1970 (great for partying like it's 1970, terrible if you want to set your Google account!). Otherwise, load apps as needed, take advantage of the unlimited ways to fashion screens, etc. The MK808B is rooted from the factory, which means you can overclock CPU speeds, add Titanium Backup, and so on. The XBMC platform blows away all other streaming services, since it is the largest multi-media platform out there. Be certain to download MX Player, and place the Player Factory Core File in Userdata.
If you are a techie, DO THIS. If you're not, get a techie. The Android platform supports nearly flawless streaming. All for $44. I'm happy!
