About the Author

Andrés L. Treviño is a fundraiser at Children’s Hospital Boston, and is a frequent spokesman for stem cell research. He’s been invited to present his story by a number of businesses and institutions, including classes at Harvard Medical School and MIT. He has a business and sales background as well as web publishing and marketing experience. He kept a blog during his son Andy’s six-year journey from terminal illness to cure, and Andy & Sofia is a memoir of that journey.

I loved reading this book! The Trevino family faced one of life's true horrors; and, they never let it beat them into submission. They found the strength to fight; and, against all odds, they found a way to cure their son! My eyes were misty every time I opened the book. Throughout reading the story, I could feel the pain and stress that Andres and Paulina (and Andy) were living through; but, somehow, it was conveyed with an uplifting and often humorous voice. One would only hope to be able to stand for one's kids the way the Trevinos did. It is a testament to the power of a Parent's love. I can't wait to read it again.

I met Andres at my place of work a couple days ago when he came in to lease a car. I noticed his accent right away and asked where he was from. He said "Mexico". I, being the curios george i am proceeded to interrogate him "really? Why did you move here", "I came to look for the cure for my son" and gave me a very brief explanation of what happened. My first reaction was "Wow! You should write a book!" as he responded " I did!". As he walked out of my office, I immediately downloaded the book through amazon onto my Iphone. Been reading it for 3 days and just can't put it down. My brother was hit by a car at age 14 when his left leg became 5 inches smaller than the right one, and for 4 years I watched my parents battled with getting the wrong answers from many doctors and constantly looking for better treatments for my brother. Andres and Paulina are amazing people just like my parents who never gave up on Andy and went to the end the world to make him healthy. Im not even at the half point yet but I thought so far it's been a great read and I will recommend it to every one who asks. Cant wait to finish!

Andrés Treviño's first year as a new dad wasn't exactly what he expected: his son Andy was in and out of hospitals for the most part of his young life. The search for a diagnosis and the special care Andy needed just to survive became the familiy's sole occupation. After narrowing down the illness to a genetic immunodeficiency disorder, the doctors informed Andrés and his wife, Paulina, that the best option for treatment was to leave friends and family in Mexico and start a new life in Boston.

Andres's down-to-earth chronicle of his ordeal is an inspiration to us all. Their extended family support, many dedicated doctors and nurses, Andrés and Paulina's beautiful marriage and their love and devotion to their dying son undoubtedly gave little Andy a fighting chance.

When a new, radical and controversial treatment option is presented to them, Andrés and Paulina face a tough decision that will ultimately determine Andy's fate and change their lives forever...

This book shows the depth of a parent's love for their child. It brings awareness to the incredible struggle that children with immune deficiencies face. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book!
