Well it wasn't quite like I thought it would be but I do like it. First off I'm not sure if it's the manufacturer or the seller (Extreme Geek) I bought it from but mine appeared as though it could have been a returned model. The plastic shell wrapper was sealed shut by a label which anyone could have printed saying that it had been opened by the manufacturer to install fresh batteries. However the batteries weren't installed they were inside a white band of paper and were Costco batteries (Kirkland). What is the chance a manufacturer would ship a product with Costco batteries, and why would the manufacturer have to open the package to put the batteries in why not just put them in the first time. Be that as it may I'm not holding this quirk against either the seller or the product since the product looked new and works fine. Just saying that if you order this you might run into this situation.
As for the product there are a couple of frustrating things about it. I had assumed two things:
1. That you could easily tell from looking at it how much time was left. Instead you have to refer to a chart on the back of the device or mathematically compute the time remaining (the 15 top red lights are four minutes each, the one under that three minutes, the one under that two minutes, the one under that 1 minute - "simply" add all of the values of the lit dots to determine the time).
2. The lights would flow gently from top to bottom as time runs out. Instead an annoying constantly circling swirling red light moves around the middle of the device once every second giving the effect of a strobe light.
Despite these annoyances the timer does get the job done and is accurate - you just need to set it and forget it for the most part, turning the red dotted side away from you.
Setting it is easy there are 3 buttons on the base the left one is for 10 minutes, the middle one is for 5 minutes and the right one is for one minute. Just press the buttons to set anytime you want up to 60 minutes. For instance 30 minutes is 3 pushes of the 10 minute button; 45 minutes is 4 pushes of the 10 minute button and one push of the 5 minute button.
All in all an OK product, certainly a conversation starter, different and just not as good as I hoped for.
