I don't know what it is, but every baby I know who has one of these adopts this as their go to security object. My 13 month old son loves this blanket. If there were only room for three of us in the life raft, I think I'd be waving to my wife and son and this damn blanket from the sinking ship. I'd be tempted to try to enumerate all the great things about this, but frankly, I have no idea why babies love these. It's soft, but I'm guessing there's more to it than that, and we'll just have to wait until somebody makes one of those speaking gadgets for babies that they had for the dogs in "Up" before we'll really know what the deal is.
But I can say this: for the love of God get at least three. You'll need some in reserve, because eventually one will get barfed on or lost and you'll be really glad when your child's security object needs are still able to be met with nothing more than a quick little switcheroo. You may need to rotate in the second and third string blankies for a while to get them all smelling like you. That way, when the need truly strikes, the blankie you call in from the bullpen will not smell like the factory. My kid doesn't seem to care, but I've heard that some babies are not so easily fooled.
Monkey has been a friend to our son for 6 years, unfortunately he went missing a few weeks ago. Our son was heartbroken. Thanks to Amazon for carrying this item so we could quickly return his friend. As it turn out Monkey was on a secret spy mission ;-) I highly recommend Angel Dear products! I have bought them for others and would do so again!
Super sweet, super soft, and super cute. Nice quality. I just love this little puppy dog lovey. I hope my baby will become attached.
*Update. It's been almost 3 months since I bought my baby his puppy lovey. We have two of them so I can always have a clean one incase the other gets dirty. I wouldn't say he is super attached to it yet, but he does love it. When he nurses he will hold the ear of the puppy and rub it on his face. He will hold on to the ear while he sleeps. He chews on the ears and the little sewn nubs on the corners. Plays with the tag. One morning he was wrestless laying in bed with me and I gave it to him and he was holding on to both ears playing with them and chewing on them etc and he put himself to sleep with it. They have both been through many washes and look brand new when they come out of the wash. They get a little matted looking after use for a bit but the wash fluffs them back up. I have not seen any loose threads or signs of wear. In total we have 4 of these. 2 puppies and 2 lions. My son does not take to the lions at all. My tip is to get an animal with ears. I'm going to buy another one just for the diaper bag.
I am often worried about allowing my baby to use a lovey as she often rubs and nuzzles her face into it. We have tried many loveys and most of them, although adorable, were a bit too thick and made me uneasy. This lovey is nice and thin. She seems to have taken to ti quickly and I am at ease knowing that it is a safe option for her.
It's been almost 4 years since my (then) baby got this as a present and it's still his best friend and companion. He sleeps with several toys but no matter what time of night it is, this little guy is always within his arm's reach. The blankie helped him with separation anxiety, sleeping over at grandparents' house, and now serves as a playmate during imaginative play. It will be a very sad day for me when my son outgrows this blankie.
I like that this blankie is fabulously soft - even after washing numerous times. Speaking of washing, I just throw this in with my baby's regular clothes and don't have to do a 'special' wash cycle just to wash this.
I like that this is small. Hearing about SIDS all the time, I don't feel nervous allowing my baby to have this during nap times and bedtime.
I like that this item has been selling for at least the last 7-8 years. I first became aware of this product years ago when acting as a nanny. I like that this product is still available - and comes in various animals (can change animal/color for subsequent children).
PROS: - Soft - Small - Easy to clean (regular cycle) - Relatively inexpensive - Availability (time-wise)
CONS: - I bought two of these to have a spare for washing, I am disappointed that I can actually tell a difference between the two. One seems longer and thinner. This may just be a random incident - and isn't too big of a deal because I plan on letting child know of "spare" "Friend."
Right when I give this to my 10 month old daughter at night, she promptly rubs it back and forth over her face. She then holds it in one hand while she sleeps. She loves it and I do too! It washes nicely and is still super soft. I hang it to dry, even though I'm sure it would come out fine in the dryer. I bought her two and I feel I made a great choice! Great quality.
Note: the included pictures are of the raccoon after it had been washed and hung to dry two times
