As the lead singer of Skid Row, Sebastian Bach was one of the last true stars of the pre-Nirvana hard-rock era. His natural good looks, showmanship, charisma and pipes were perfectly suited for MTV in the late 80s/early 90s. But with the onset of grunge and alternative rock, overnight, Bach found himself suddenly obsolete. Skid Row gave it another try with their underappreciated third outing "Subhuman Race," (1995) but it unfortunately underperformed. In the late 90s, Bach's career really hit the skids when he was fired from Skid Row.

But Bach has kept himself busy over the years. He's dabbled in theatre, TV shows and of course music. First there was The Last Hard Men, the mid-90s project he did with Kelly Deal and Jimmy Chamberlin (released in 2001) as well as a live album with a couple new songs, and an album with Frameshift. Now Bach is back with a new studio album, the Roy Z produced "Angel Down" (2007)

Imagine crossing "Slave to the Grind" (1991) with "Subhuman Race" and that's pretty much the sound and style of Bach's new album. It has the hooks and catchiness of "Slave", yet the Pantera-esque aggressiveness of "Subhuman Race." "Angel Down" manages to strike a good balance--sounding heavy and melodic like Skid Row, yet fresh, as it avoids sounding too retro.

The opening title-track," Angel Down" starts off with an epic, old-school metal, "Shout at the Devil" like intro, before going into an all-out assault mode and is a great way to fire up the album. "You Don't Understand" is a bit of a throwback, with a real 80s melodic feel; not that that's a bad thing, as the song rocks.

Guns N' Roses reclusive singer Axl Rose joins Bach for the next three songs, the first being a cover of Aersosmith's "Back in the Saddle.

Wow! This CD is unbelievable! I wish I could give it 10 stars. Every song is fantastic, and Sebastian Bach's voice is better than ever. Axl Rose's contributions on three of the songs are great, too. This CD is much heavier than anything Sebastian did with Skid Row, and he has truly outdone himself on this one. Sebastian may single-handedly bring back real rock music! Thanks, Sebastian, and keep on rockin'!

Just like phencyclidine (PCP), the primary psychoactive effects of hearing Sebastian Bach and Axl Rose last only minutes, but total elimination from the mind is prolonged, typically extending over weeks. I suggest listening to this CD daily for an extended high.

It has been years since I gave anything from Sebastian Bach a good listen. Simply put, he has done nothing over the last few years that interested me. I do however have fond memories of how well the man could belt it out from his Skid Row days. Songs like Slave To The Grid and Monkey Business were awesome tunes that showed just how well he could let it rip.

Well this time out he has put together a great band. Mike Chlasciak, Johnny Chromatic, Steve DiGiorgio and Bobby Jarzombek. Anytime you can grab Metal Mike and Bobby Jarzombek is a plus as they were great with Halford. Add Steve and his bass splaying prowess and you've got a top notch band to work with. Johnny Chromatic, whom I'm not familiar with, does a great job filling up the rhythm section with a massive wall of sound. Overall the band is tight and full sounding with a great production job from none other than Roy Z!

Let me be the first to tell you that Sebastian Bach has not lost anything at all in his vocal ability. The man can still deliver the goods and is one of my favorite metal singers, when he sticks to what he does best. His powerful delivery is simply amazing at times and really does give all the tunes, which are great to begin with, a good kick in the pats. Seriously, this is a top quality release by the man and deserve much more props than it will probably get!

Axl Rose, yes that's right, Axl Rose (yes he still is alive!!) steps in on a few tunes to add his own unique vocal style to these recordings.
Although it's cool to see Axl actually doing something these days other than being a dick!, I must admit that I'm not really sure he brings much to the table here. Yes he does a good job here and does have his own style, however even though I'm glad to see him doing something again, I'm not sure Sebastian needed his help on this one as it's rocks all on it's own!

This effort is rock solid and everyone who ebjoys metal should check it out!!

Angel Down

WHEW!!! How do I begin this Review???? This CD-"Angel Down"...is a Work of Art. From Begining to end...it touches you everywhere. To begin you have the first song-and Title song from the Album.- "Angel Down"...It starts out with a quiet kind of, deep rumble...then it crescendos to a loud thumping balls-out MetalFest!!!! :) I can just see it now...I actually pictured this song-opening up a Concert...WOW...THE LIGHTS ARE OUT...YOU START TO HEAR THE RUMBLE.....AND THEN AN ANGEL COMES FLYING DOWN FROM THE CEILING TO A FOG-FILLED STAGE....AND SO THE CONCERT BEGINS....;)

WOW!!!! ;) I first listened to this in my car...then in my House...and all I- can say-(and I am still quite speechless)both have good speaker systems in it...and well at less then 1/2 volume...the whole car was shaking!!!!! Not to mention my House!!! It was incredible!!! The sound on this album...is so PERFECT...it is almost to good to be true. From the Wailing Guitars...(Thanks Metal Mike) To the Screaming Vocals...(Love you Baz)...It is just spine chilling!!!! I was jumping up and down inside my car-(If you can imagine that!!!!) And being a Banshee in my house!!!!!! IT SO TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!! A COMPLETE AND UTTER- B L A S T ....!!!! :)

Words REALLY can not explain this album. YOU HAVE TO GET IT....IT IS THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR-NEXT YEAR-AND WILL BE A LEGEND IN THE YEARS TO COME!!!

In this Album, you can really feel and even see this Music. Sebastian really put his heart and soul into this, and you can tell. There is Pleasure, Pain, Sorrow, you name it in here...
