This is a very emotive book, with challenges to loyalty and a deep and abiding love of a father. I love the fact that it doesn't all come out smooth and just so in the end, more realistic (as much as a paranormal tale can be!) than usual. But it's not mawkish. I really enjoyed this book!

This is the first book i`ve read of J.E.T`s and i`m hooked. I went straight on to amazon and clicked on the first 4 books of this series and am now waiting desperately for the next book. Great descriptive writing and scene setting, it had me on the edge of my seat and my heart in my throat at times. Characters have depth and they draw you into their story. Having lost his wife to Lucifer Tom clings to his daughter Hannah for his sanity, almost smothering her with his need to be close. He`s slowly climbing the steep slopes out of grief when his world is turned upside down again. He has a choice to make and that choice will change him whatever way he turns. What would you sacrifice for your child?!

I’ve been a reader of Taylor’s for many years now and have followed this series almost from the very beginning. So what is strange for me is I feel like Tom and CJ’s aunty. I knew them when they lost their mom and dad, I knew them when they were just little kids and Steve became their guardian, heck I even remember when Steve met Ty for the first time. So for me this is an odd sensation to describe in a book review because now Tom and CJ are all grown up and reading about their romantic interactions almost feels morally wrong (lol). But, dare I say that I love that Taylor has never let this story die, she takes us forward with each new book into their future, into their power, and into the dynamic roles they have not just for themselves but for all of us.

Perhaps the most powerful aspect of this series is how in each of us there’s a little devil and a little angel. For the Ryan family it’s literal, for us it’s ‘probably’ figurative. In this installment Tom is barely coping with his grief, barely functioning, and doing a magnificent job of it all things considered. I just had a death in my household and I’m not holding it together at all, I have a depression so bad I don’t want to work or feel or think or interact or anything. I live on the precipice of constant tears, so reading this novel now was therapy.

In a nutshell the novel is about moving forward after death, and it helps if you have people who love you and care about you, and getting out and helping others is the way Tom does it, that is until his very worst fear is realized. The fallen angel kicked out of heaven is not a cool character in this series, he’s downright awful, and there is no boundary he won’t cross, nothing is off limits.

Thomas Patrick Ryan missed his wife, Raven, much and was so afraid because of his daughter safety. He could not let Hannah out of his sight. His overprotection was affecting the child too. Would he ever be okay again? Bridget was Captain O’Keefe’s niece and she approached Tom because she was desperate because she needed a job and a place to stay. She told Tom what else she could do. An asset in his business. She had lost all her family too so, she knew about the pain Tom was feeling. There was an attraction between them and they gave in to lust. It had been too long for both of them and they needed sexual release. While they were still looking for the people on Lucifer’s list Hannah was kidnapped and the price of the ransom was too high. Tom was out of himself. What to do? He could not engage his thought. Where were his loyalties? My heart hurts for Tom. When he was trying to cope and get ahead everything crumples. Desperation was circling him and he felt so lost. This story ripped my heart. So much sadness. The author narrations were filled with many painful descriptions and while reading, I cried a few times. The last chapters let me thinking. The darkness in Tom was giving him pause. He needed strength to do what he was supposed to do and redeemed himself. The future seemed grim for him. The story was very intense, much suspense, sex and feelings of despair. This story caught my attention immediately. It was very good and full of lot of action, suspense and emotions. After the first book I was intrigued and now I want more. Received the ARC for an honest review.

I was gifted this book for an honest review and have t say that J.E. Taylor did a wonderful job writing this story about a gentleman with a young daughter who lost his wife and was over protective of his daughter.
