The Base series is both complicated yet simple at the same time. (I know this sounds like a contradiction.) Complicated in the huge cast of characters and an abundance of twists and turns that keep you guessing. Simple by incorporating a good versus evil theme centered around child trafficking. The Base and its crew are on the side of good with their foes spearheading the despicable acts perpetrated against the innocence of youth.
Angels of the Night centers on Caleb Macnamara, 21, and Ardan Macnamara’s (founder of The Base) younger brother Saint (Llewellyn Saint-James), 35, a former police officer and MI5 agent. A series of events introduces us to Zev Abramsky (previously known as Zachary Jacobs), 33, former Army officer and CIA agent. Zev and Saint have a history full of misunderstanding and heartache but thanks to Caleb’s meddling, and desire for both men, he reunites these lost lovers.
The path to happiness for Caleb, Saint and Zev is rocky and appears impossible for them to obtain. Yet, the authors do a splendid job of keeping us guessing with an accompanying physical ache in our chest to only reward us in the end. The mechanics of a trio can be difficult to navigate but the love that emerges from these guys works beautifully for them with Caleb being their bonding force.
In my review of Dancing in the Dark I stated “And you never know what the evil and sadistic Fabian Bloom is going to enact next.” This man is a conundrum. I can’t forgive his involvement and the depraved acts he previously committed but I see a different facet emerging that has me slowly softening to the man. His interventions this time around combine with the budding connection to his chauffeur and confidante, Lance Hansen, and his protection and care for his protegee, Rowan Winters, to divulge his true nature. So why the dark past? I guess we will have to wait for his story to be revealed, but I have my suspicions. Speaking of Lance, his true identity reveals itself during this saga, along with the manipulative woman behind his pain.
But I digress, Angels of the Night is truly the continuing soap opera like life of The Base’s inhabitants. We witness the drama, suspense, and surprising turn of events from multiple points of view. We are privy to their internal dialog as the action unfolds. We are witness to all the joy, love, suffering and pain in excruciating detail. And just like a soap opera we are given conclusions on some miniscule level but are left with numerous questions that demand answers. Answers I’m anxiously awaiting from H.M. Wolfe & Evera Ellis.
The authors also do an outstanding job moving the ongoing mystery surrounding the traffickers along. There are many twists and turns which will leave you wondering just what will happen next and if Ardan and the men of The Base will ever be able to cut the head of the snake off.
As The Base story continues we meet Zachary, Saint and Caleb and read as these three came together, learning how to forgive, love , be forthcoming and to listen to the full story before passing further judgement.
We find out Lance's true identity, but we are yet to find out how he came to be working for Fabian. And I bet it would be an interesting tale.
What and interesting turn of events.
What is Fabian's real agenda? I guess we will just wait to see, as for now we can only speculate.
I remember the Trevellyan name being mention in one of the previous Dragon House book, I need to investigate more. There is a connection between the MacNamara, Stark, Bloom family. But what is it?
Now we have the other characters coming to life; like George, Warthon..
Will the whole plot be unraveled, is there a bigger plot behind the trafficking?
There are so much questions that needs answering and more questions to be asked.
Is Riley and Rowan story Book 5?
Thank you authors, I await your next installment of The Base.
