From the Inside Flap

In this understanding and supportive guide, renowned writer, lecturer, and counselor Earnie Larsen lays out a new strategy for identifying and facing up to our underground reservoirs of resentment and rage and moving beyond them to forgiveness. Gently, patiently, he teaches us that we can learn how to reclaim the power that anger has over us, and restablish relationships and rebuild bridges that might have been burned--as we move forward toward a new serenity and understanding of ourselves, and the hidden needs that have kept us stuck and helpless.

About the Author

Earnie Larsen has been intimately invloved with people in Twelve Step programs for twenty years. He has degrees in counceling, education, and theology, and he lectures, counsels, and conducts workshops and seminars nationally on improving interpersonal relationships. He is the author of thirty books.

I purchased three books on the subject of forgiveness: "Forgive and forget: healing the hurts we dont deserve", "From anger to forgiveness a practical guide to breaking the negative power of anger and achieving reconciliation", and "Forgiveness: how to make peace with your past and get on with your life".

Forgiveness: how to make peace with your past and get on with your life was by far the most helpful. It is the most practical and the most comprehensive of the three books I purchased. The book explains the what (forgiveness is), why (forgive and humans experience stumbling blocks), and also the how (to forgive).

I found from anger to forgiveness to be the second best. It had some good practical advice and steps, but did not go into the same level of detail that forgiveness did. I would have rated this book higher had I not read Forgiveness:.

Forgive and forget was the least effective of the three books. It had very few practical steps or solutions. The book spoke at length about theory and did not ever arrive at practical conclusions or steps to take. The story in the very beginning was the closest the book ever came to defining the path to forgiveness.

I love Earnie Larsen and this book confirms it. In it he (I've not quite finished it) does what the title says, discusses methods of moving from anger to forgiveness. He does this and avoids the traps that might ensnare a person into thinking forgiveness means being open to the harm again while making it clear that forgiveness is for our benefit, not for the benefit of the transgressor.

You will get an understanding of anger and the effects it has on our daily lives. The book has been a blessing many times over and I have recommended it to several friends and family members over the years.

I found this book long on story and short on content. I prefer books that get to the point, but this a reading style issue for me more than a fault of the book. I would suggest this is a beginners book to get you started in your understanding of anger and forgiveness.

This book helps one get at the root causes of ongoing anger issues, but you have to make an effort to do the exercises it offers. This isn't difficult because the book makes it clear for you.

It was just what I needed in my life at the time. I read it twice and highlighted areas that were important to me. I passed it on to a friend.

This book is exactly as described in the title. I have used it for myself and to instruct classes and to counsel others. Clarifies types of angry behaviors, from the subtler to the dangerously obvious. Does a good job of "selling" the benefits of achieving forgiveness.
