I found this while looking for more youth-appropriate/fun games to add to my collection as I began introducing the girl I babysit to video games.
If you're used to Mario Party games, and just want something similar, you may be disappointed. Unlike that series, there are no mini-games, and you can't purposely effect the progress of the other players. On that point, it's a bit less in terms of edge of your seat excitement. On the other hand, it takes away that possibility for resentment. Another good/bad point is the amiibos. The concept is really cool. It saves your data to be used each time you play. But for some children, that may be a point of argument, wanting to switch characters sometimes, or whether someone uses the wrong one.
I would definitely, however, recommend the game to younger children who aren't prone to anxiety over their property.
(Within reason! I don't personally condone really little kids having much screen time! I'm a bit less rigid when it's at least interactive, but there still needs to be some caution. I've seen some really affected kids.).
The game works like a typical board game. Pick a character. Roll the dice and move to the right spot.
You earn bells (Animal Crossing money) or lose them depending on what event it says happens on the spot you land on. You get stamps when you pass checkpoints. At certain intervals, characters show up and place extra event spaces temporarily that can give you items or win/lose you bells. I have honestly forgotten exactly what you need to win, but you can use bells toward getting more. Those are the basics, though. It's cute and simple. Involves reading and a little bit of basic math.
Pros
-Completely appropriate for all ages.
-Characters that you sort of customize by repeated use.
-Simple controls.
-Good way to do a board game that takes up much less space, or when nobody is available to play with.
Cons
-HATE that you have to take turns with the Wii U controller. Not helpful when your seats aren't close, and one player has extreme germophobia issues. (It, in fact, prevented us playing it. I've only tested it out alone once.) Nintendo needs to get going on finding better controller options.
-Better if you can read. Otherwise you need someone reading everything to you; Animal Crossing characters don't speak; just make a babbling noise and show text.
-If you've played Mario Party, this won't be very exciting.
-Could potentially cause arguments over customized amiibos. (Could be avoided if amiibos use is discussed before buying.)
Overall, I guess I would say to avoid it if you're a Mario Party fan (maybe look up Dokapon Kingdom instead!), but give it a shot if it's for younger kids who understand the rules in advance.
Packaging: Everything was perfect! Everything was in amazing condition. I was worried it would be a pre-owned game thrown into a worn box but I was pleasantly surprised to see everything looking good! It's happened before to me but not this time so I'm extremely pleased!
Also I got Stitches as an amiibo card so I am 100% thrilled.

Nice features:
- You can play the board game as 1 player. (It's long however...you have to play with 3 NPCs which is over an hour easily of game time.). 6 of the 8 mini games are single player accessible. 4 mini games can be played with more than one player. 2 need at least 2 players.
- You can set a time limit on the board game.
- You can change your outfit b4 a game starts after you unlock them with happy points stored on the Amiibo.
- You don't need to register the amiibos to your Wii U to use them.
- You can see the amiibos that have played in your plaza.
- NPCs can be renamed.
- The board game host changes.
- The board game art changes based on month/season. Also different months add different holidays to the game.
Cons:
- No off screen play. So it gets played less in our house.
- Board game space cut-scenes can get repetitive. As a digital game they should have added some more variety.
- The three cards that come with the game are dissapointingly baseball card like. Since you have to use the cards to essentially log into the other mini games ... they could very easily get damaged by younger kids or adults for that matter. Credit card type cards would have been best. A thin plastic top and bottom protective glossy film at minimum really would have been nice. Personally, I will be buying hard plastic sleeves to protect them.
- The biggest disappointment is that some of the other mini games need 6 cards to gain access to them. So you have to buy more cards because the box comes with 3. I took off a star in the review because of that. So essentially your paying for the game + Amiibo statues (at least 1 Animal Crossing Amiibo statue is needed to get past the start screen) + Amiibo cards. If I'm forced to buy a bundle...have everything included. Maybe this bugs me because I would have preferred a digital download which is not available. Also the cards and statues are not interchangeable. Board game uses statues. Mini games use cards. Both can only be Animal Crossing.

It supposed to come with 2 rare amiibo and three amiibo cards! But instead all I got was the game!!!!! I am extremely disappointed and mad, I didn’t buy this just for the game!! I wanted the amiibo and cards!!! Cause otherwise it’s not worth it!! Anyway what I’m trying to say is, don’t buy it it’s not at all what it says!

Sorry for the rant, its just astounding that games like this are made when Nintendo typically puts out quality titles, and isn't afraid to postpone them if they feel they're not up to snuff. For the 19.99$ purchase price at the time I purchased it its only worth it if you're collecting Animal Crossing Amiibos as it does come with two. But there's no other games that actually use them for anything so unless you're just putting them on shelf I'd even steer clear of that.
So... that’s pretty great.
