From the Publisher
Animal Reiki is a widely recommended by alternative healers:
"While there are many ways for us to teach and to heal other animal beings, this forward-looking book offers an often overlooked hands-on way for us to develop and maintain close social bonds with our animal kin. I learned a lot from reading Animal Reiki and highly recommend it to a wide audience."
--Marc Bekoff, University of Colorado
author of Minding Animals and Animal Passions
and Beastly Virtues: Reflections on Redecorating Nature,
and editor of the Encyclopedia of Animal Behavior
"How appropriate to offer Reiki to the animals in our lives! The cats in my life (and a few very sensitive dogs) have been performing Reiki on me for years. It's time to return the favor. Fulton and Prasad have created a much needed guide to a method of helping animals heal that is gentle, intuitive, safe, and powerful. Learn it . . . then use it."
--Susan Chernak McElroy author of All My Relations: Living with Animals as Teachers and Healers, Animals as Guides for the Soul, and Heart in the Wild
"Elizabeth Fulton and Kathleen Prasad inspire with their stories and impress with the breadth and depth of their experience. Animals and the people who love them will benefit from the wisdom in this insightful book."
--Allen and Linda Anderson founders of the Angel Animals Network and authors of Rainbows & Bridges: An Animal Companion Memorial Kit
"In this remarkable book, we can learn how to deepen our connection to all animals, as well as ourselves. With careful detail and inspiring examples, authors Elizabeth Fulton and Kathleen Prasad give us all the tools we need to try out this holistic healing system with the animals in our lives."

"The authors of Animal Reiki have demystified their subject in an objective and clear way, rendering this much-neglected healing art more accessible to readers and, more importantly, to our wonderful animal friends."
--Christopher Day, MA, VetMB, VetFFHom, MRCVS author of Homoeopathic Treatment of Small Animals: Principles and Practice

I've also used the methods from this book on our neighbors' cows that strayed onto our ranch. The first time, they stood watching me very intently. The second time, I had four calves come up to me and one sniffed my hand and then licked it a couple of times. These are all cattle that are not tame in any way and are normally pretty wary. The next day, when I was walking to my car, that same calf left his mother's side to practically stand in my way--as if to say, "More, please!" (I knew it was the same one because it has an ear tag and I remembered the number!)
Recently, I've been sending Reiki, according to the book's methods, to a feral cat that we've been feeding. Before I started doing that, she would keep her distance from me and run if I got too close. Just today I sent her Reiki from a distance of about 10 feet. She got up, stretched and came up to within about 4 feet of me, curled up and closed her eyes and dozed. She was quite relaxed. This made me very happy because it's one of the indications the authors mention that an animal will show when it is accepting and enjoying Reiki.
I think the most important thing I learned from the book was that we should ask the animals first if they wish to receive Reiki, and to tell them to take only as much as they want. Allowing them to make the decision instead of you making it for them is the key here. I look forward to continuing to use the principles from this book every chance I get.
The book covers mainly domestic animals but also contains stories about treating wild animals. This too was particularly interesting to me as I have found that wild animals often gather outside my Reiki studio. On one beautiful fall day, as I was sitting outside, I decided to offer Reiki to the wild animals. In a short amount of time I had a flock of wild birds gathered around me absorbing the healing energy. Not long after that the squirrels arrived. Although I practice Reiki frequently, I am still in awe each time. The healing energy is beautiful.
I recommend this book for anyone interested in energy healing, learning new things or just looking for a good, uplifting book to read.

If you want to get the most out of this book, do not read it on Kindle - there are parts of text missing, lots of typos, chapter headlines where they do not belong and captions for photos in the middle of text. It can be become very confusing and tedious reading this book on Kindle!
