I liked Alphabet Car, in fact if it wasn't for the issues that I will mention below, I would have given this app a four star rating. As it is, I am honestly worried about letting my daughter play around with it.

The object of this game is to drive down the road and pick up letters to spell the required words. There are multiple difficulty levels, each increasing the word length by one letter (starting with the Beginner and Preschool 3 letter word category).

The tilt and touch controls are spot on and music/sound are all of appropriate cuteness. The graphics (although repetitive) are also fairly nice looking. Every three levels you clear, you get to unlock a new car and ARE TOLD to rate this game... EVERY THREE LEVELS. It just doesn't stop (images uploaded with review).

Then there are the incredibly nasty permissions, including "read only access to phone state", which combined with the included network permission makes this app incredibly dangerous. I also don't know why this game causes so much IP traffic (image uploaded with review).

The Good:

- Bright, flashy, and kid friendly graphics. You can customize your bus with different color combinations and the environments look good (if not a bit repetitive).

- Great sound effects, voice, and music. Everything sounds exactly like a learning game should. I also like how the words are pronounced.

- Large word selection (but there are still plenty of repeats through the levels on the same difficulty).

- Easy to learn controls. You can mess around with speed by moving the clutch up/down, and the tile controls are very responsive.

The Bad:

- Repetitive game play.

You are presented with a word to spell such as "FOX" and as you drive a school bus down the road using tilt controls you must hit the appropriate letters needed to spell the word as they appear on the road. Cool idea for a spelling game to use a combination of driving and spelling. There are 5 difficulty levels "Preschool, Beginner(3 letter words), Intermediate(4 letter words), Advanced(5 letter words) and Expert(6 letter words) and 10 stages(levels) to play through for each one. The Advanced and Expert levels are only unlocked after you complete the Intermediate difficulty game.

Good instructions for the game are given verbally by a "Goofy" sounding voice that is easily understood. Upbeat cheery music plays in the game and the bus has appropriate fun sound effects for the motor rumbling along, dangerous swerving on the road and near misses of letters. There is a control bar to make the bus go faster or slower. My favorite feature which is not mentioned in the description is the horn which you can beep whenever you get the urge.

When you are given a word it is pronounced by a clear voice and you are shown a picture of it for the first 3 stages. As you hit the correct letter with your bus the letter is pronounced and when you complete the word the entire word is pronounced again. To increase the difficulty at the beginning of stages 4-6 you are given only the spelling of the word but no picture and in stages 7-9 you are show a picture of the word but not the spelling. Level 10 is sort of a review and test level which combines all the words from the previous 9 stages. .

At the end of each stage you are rewarded both with verbal praise and Stars.

I think this game is pretty good, but perhaps it shouldn't be in 3d. A 2d one might be better. It's hard for kids to control the speed and this "over the hill" perspective is not good. The kids don't get enough time to see what letter it is and when they do, it's too late for them to navigate from one side to the other. And perhaps make it more fun by offering different cars instead of just one bus in different color. And maybe ability for parents to enter words they want the kids to learn. As is, it's a nagware. And putting links to purchase extra stuff is just plain wrong. Kids will accidentally purchase extra stuff so they make extra money off you. Be warned if you install this on your tablet.

Why do the developers of this app want to know where your child is? No excuse for that.

Do you have in-app purchasing disabled or parental controls turned on? If the answers are no, then your tyke can rack up a nice little bill on your credit card on file with Amazon.

Avoid this t-u-r-d.

The bus is "driven" by steering your device through different letters to spell words. There are different difficulty levels. I wish there were perhaps a version for older kids who are learning disabled. Perhaps instead of cute childish buses - there could be motorcycles, or sleds, or race cars or something more "cool."

Game play:
If you touch the school bus on the home screen he jumps and honks his horn. You touch the green check mark and then you get to pick which bus you want to drive and there are 13 choices but they are all locked but the first one. The scrolling of the buses had a lot of lag on my Kindle Fire.

There are 5 difficulties and they are:
* Preschool,
* Beginner for 3 letter words,
* Intermediate for 4 letter words,
* Advanced for 5 letter words and
* Expert for 6 letter words.

When you start the game you are driving the bus by tilting the smart device and you can adjust the speed by using the handle in the lower LH corner. There is a pause button, a button to turn off the music and a stack of cards that shows you how many words you have spelled. When you pause the game you get a door on the screen to exit the game. If you touch the steering wheel the game continues on. The graphics are good and the sound and voices are clear and understandable. When you spell a word correctly then you get a pop up flash card with a picture of the item on it and a voice clearly pronounces the word.

After 15 words the words began repeating themselves. The preschool level just didn't automatically end and kept repeating the same 15 words over and over.

In the beginner level you get to select the stage you want to play and they are all locked but the first one. You have to spell 5 words and they are the same first five words form the preschool level. On level two you have to spell the same 5 words again but there are other letters on the road and you have to hit the right ones. Level three, you guessed it! You get to spell the same five words again!
