This is a beautifully designed 7 port USB 3.0 hub that is powerful enough to power your devices and it has very fast speeds. The case is brushed aluminum with white or black plastic ends. It comes with a USB 3.0 cable that is 39 inches long. It comes with an AC power supply that has an AC plug cable that is 48 inches long and the power plug cable is 50 inches long. The power supply will operate on 100 to 240 VAC and 50/60 Hz with an output of 12 VDC rated at 3 amps so it can supply 36 watts of power for your USB devices. The power supply is one of the things that make this hub one of the best. It will adequately supply power for your USB devices while it also has a built in surge suppressor to protect your equipment.

The hub has 7 USB 3.0 ports on it that are also downward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices. Even though each port has accessible power you should remember that the data transfer speed is being shared with one USB 3.0 port from your computer. That means that the data bandwidth of 5 Gb/s is split across 7 devices and that is if you have a USB3.0 port to use. If you use a USB 2.0 port or a USB 1.1 port and then plug in USB 2.0/1.1 devices it will be even slower. That is not the fault of the hub but just the actual result of the technology's capability.

I like that the hub has a power on/off switch so I could set up the hub and plug in my devices and then turn the hub on. All four of my memory storage devices popped up on my computer is less than 10 seconds which is very good. Each port has an LED that lights up to indicate that a device is plugged in and drawing power.

Not a great hub. The tolerances on the USB ports are off. Apple branded cables don't want to plug in for some reason. I used an Amazon branded lightning cable, and it went in fine. The hub is powered, but won't charge an iPad mini, or anything bigger. But it will charge and iPod and/or an iPhone (5c anyway). It also runs portable HDDs, two of them in my case, without any problems. So I’m OK with it and will keep it for now. But it looks better made that it really is. You can tell just by holding it. It looks like an Apple device, but feels like a cheap knockoff.

This product was EXACTLY what I expected and needed for my home office. It looks great, the USB plugs fit snugly and the entire unit has a solid, well-built feel to it. The blue LEDs are bright, but not overpowering and the design makes it one of the best-looking and low-profile hubs I have found. I would definitely order another one and I highly recommend it.

However, I am only giving it four (4) stars out of five (5) due to a slight manufacturing defect that hopefully only impacted my unit. The top of the aluminum enclosure has very noticeable scratch marks which are uniform and parallel and likely were made during the manufacturing or assembly process. My unit was intact when I received it, and the packaging appeared to be factory-new.

Other than a (hopefully) one-off defect in the finish, this is a fantastic unit and I am very happy with it.

UPDATE: (Dec 23, 2013) - The service I received from ANKER Customer Service regarding this matter was exceptional. They immediately sent me a replacement unit and a pre-paid postage label to return the defective/scratched hub.

FINAL UPDATE: (Feb 19, 2014) - The level of personal service and communication I experienced from ANKER was remarkable. However, the replacement unit they sent to me had an identical problem. In fact, the problem was even more pronounced as the scratches ran the length of the top surface, instead of just to one side. It has not been very noticeable in low-light conditions (as the scratches are very fine), but this problem is quite evident when using the hub in brightly-lit areas. I assume the hub was scratched during the manufacturing or finishing/packing process...thus might be affecting many of the units produced around the same timeframe.

Bought this and left it in the package unused until today. It would not power up. Unfortunately, I'm way beyond the return window. I usually like Anker's products, but I guess this one was a dud. My fault for not opening it right away and testing it, but still disappointing!

**** UPDATE ****
A few days after posting my 1-star review, Anker customer service contacted me through Amazon. While the original product itself called for the rating I gave, Anker's follow-up was nothing short of outstanding. (Thus the update to 4 stars.) The agent (Laura from AnkerDirect Customer Support) asked if she could send me a replacement unit. I agreed, and by the end of the week -- at no cost to me -- Anker sent me their new 7-port hub: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charging-Adapter-Included-VL812-B2/dp/B014ZQ07NE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465915422 ... I've purchased numerous Anker products in the past and will continue to do so based on this positive experience.

I sold my big desktop computer and now only use my Macbook Pro 15" laptop. The only problem with the MacBook is the lack of USB ports. I have a ton of stuff hooked to my Macbook and with this great USD HUB I can now use all the stuff I need without hooking and unhooking stuff. I plugged it into the wall since it is a powered USB HUB and then turned it on. I really like the blue indicator light that shows when it's turned on. I also like that it has a power switch built into the HUB. I then plugged it into one of my two USB ports on my MacBook and then plugged in my (1) 1TB WD hard drive that I use for Time Machine, (2) a 1TB Seagate general storage portable drive, (3) a 2TB WD My Book that is acting as a second backup drive, (4) 300GB WD hard drive that I had forever and and can use since I've got the USB ports. I also have my (5) Canon USB printer plugged in. Each one of these plug-ins shows a tiny blue light which is real cool. Oh, yeah, I also have my (6) Apple USB Superdrive plugged in since I took the optical drive out of my MacBook Pro. That leaves me one port left to plug-in a USB drive that I occasionally need to read. This Anker USB HUB takes everything every day I throw at it and just works. Real reliable. When I turn my MacBook off at night, all the drives shut down but the HUB stays powered. When I start up my MacBook in the morning, everything hooked to the HUB just automatically comes up and I have access to everything I need.

This HUB also looks like it was made by Apple. The silver color fits in perfectly with my Apple Superdrive and of course my MacBook Pro. I would certainly recommend this to anyone in need of a bunch of USB 3.0 ports.
