Let's check spec compliance :
I'm using my trusty Chromebook Pixel 2015 with the Chromium Twinkie USB-PD Sniffer, available on Amazon from Plugable : Plugable USB 3.1 Type-C (USB-C) Power Delivery Sniffer
For my first test, I've got the Anker MicroUSB Adapter plugged into a good quality (itself capable of >2.4A) Micro-B cable from Belkin. (this one: Belkin 6-Foot 2.0 USB Type C (USB-C) to Micro USB Charge Cable, USB-C Certified ) . That is then plugged Apple proprietary MacBook charger capable of 5.2V at 2.4A.
The Type-C end is plugged into Twinkie, acting as a pass through to Chromebook Pixel 2015. Picture attached!
First let's run the ectool command from Pixel's command line to check what Pixel thinks is happening on its USB-C ports :
localhost ~ # ectool --dev 1 usbpdpower
Port 0: SNK Charger Proprietary 4744mV / 2400mA, max 5000mV / 2400mA / 12000mW
Port 1: SRC
So far so good. Pixel identifies the charger as a Proprietary type adapter, and has negotiated 2.4A.
Let's see what Twinkie (the USB PD sniffer) says :
> tw cc
CC1 = 22 mV ; CC2 = 434 mV
The tw cc command reads the current voltage values from the CC pins. As you can see here, CC2 pin has a value of 434mV. Referring to the USB Type-C Specification Table 4-25 Voltage on Sink CC pins, this voltage falls right in the middle of the range allowed for vRd-USB, meaning that yes, this MicroUSB adapter has the correct 56kΩ pullup resistor!
One more command :
> tw vbus
VBUS = 4818 mV ; -2450 mA
The tw vbus command uses twinkie's current and voltage meter ability. As you can see, the laptop is pulling just around 2.4A of current at 4.818V from the Apple adapter.
For a HighSpeed USB 2.0 data test, I’ve hooked my Nexus 5X to my Chromebook Pixel via the Anker MicroUSB adapter + Belkin MicroUSB cable to test large file transfer via MTP. It just works, no problem!
Now for more subjective judgments of this adapter : The Anker adapter has a black glossy overmold with the Anker logo on it. The whole thing is very small, barely larger than the Type-C or Micro-B connectors on both ends. The Type-C plug on this adapter is a very unique for a Micro-B adapter because in typical Anker fashion, it uses a very good quality plug made with a deep-draw extrusion process. The plug is a single continuous piece of metal all the way around, meaning it's stronger than other stamped type plugs. This type of plug is the same kind that is used on all of Google and Apple's Type-C plugs, and the quality shows here.
In conclusion : A high quality charging and data sync MicroUSB Adapter from Anker! The adapter is a great safe way to breathe new life into your old A-to-MicroUSB cables for use with newer USB Type-C devices such as Nexus 6P/5X or Pixel devices. It is also future proof for fast charging USB Type-C devices to come!
Anker has fully restored my faith in their products. Not only have they looked into this incident completely, but have done everything possible to make things right. They replaced both the adapter as well as the USB cable right away, and once they noticed that I was using an Anker battery pack as well, replaced that as well to be safe. I am happy with how they handled this situation; it shows that they really do stand behind their products and want to make sure that their customers are completely satisfied with their purchases and try to fix any issues that come up; because of this I have bumped this review up from 1 star to 4 (I would definitely give them 10 stars for customer service!)
The USB-C end is made using the deep-draw extrusion method, which means that there are no seams to fail. In addition to being stronger, it means that the edges are nice and rounded, and there is no danger of scratching your device when you plug it in. The USB C end feels very secure when inserted, with no wiggle whatsoever. The microUSB end is pretty much a normal microUSB plug. It's easy to plug devices it and remove them, and also doesn't seem to wiggle much.
The casing on this adapter is much smaller than on some other adapters I've used. The whole adapter is only 0.18" thick, whereas some of my older adapters were 0.22" thick or more. That 0.04" may not sound like much, but it makes a difference when trying to plug it into my phone with many phone cases. The adapter is small enough and sturdy enough that I can slip it into the coin pocket of my jeans and forget about it until I need it.
I would highly recommend this for anyone going from a microUSB device to a USB-C device. It may cost a bit more than some other adapters, but you get what you pay for.
Edit: I'm about 90% sure it has to do with these adapters as to why the phone's connector burned up, since the manufacturer-supplied cables/chargers do not get hot at all (although they now don't charge the phone). I will not be using these adapters on the replacement phone.

I finally got a new phone after 5 years and it uses the wonderful brand spanking new USB3 Type C or USB Type C or whatever it officially is. I was like yes, finally the people behind the incredible and revolutionary Universal Serial Bus have finally made a reversible version. The future is here people!
However, this new technology makes the old obsolete to a degree and as the cable that was package with the phone is a poultry 1.5 meters I am stuck with a 3 meter USB 2 charging cable that is not compatible with my shiny new phone!
Well no more! Anker to the rescue. It's a wonderful USB Type C adapter that means I can use the old USB micro cable with my new phone, brilliant!
Now about the product, it comes packages in a lovely looking and easy to open blister type package infused with a small piece of card.
The adapter itself is incredibly simple to use. It is a straight forward as you can imagine. Not much to say about it other than it looks nice and works great!
To put it simply it does what it says on the tin, thanks Anker!
P.S I used said shiny new phone and the Anker adapter to take and upload the photo of the Anker packaging! (Phoooosh Mind blown)
Attach to a Micro USB cable and plug in (currently to my Moto Z Play mobile). I have resorted to affixing these to the cable with a bit of gaffer tape, as they tend to stay securely plugged into the phone when I unplug the cable. When not in use I clip them back in their packaging, so they don't get lost.
An essential gadget for any bag or desk drawer.
However there is one thing that forced me to give this 3 stars and that is the advertised charge & sync doesn't work, it's only charge. While it's not a huge problem as I have a short usb a to c cable I use that one for syncing but others may not have that so it feels like false advertising
