Top Customer Reviews
The Dell battery that came with my laptop started off with about a two and a half hour
capacity and slowly got worse and worse until it was less than an hour before the low battery
warning came on.
At that point I started searching for a replacement. After reading through a couple dozen reviews
I settled on this Anker Extended Capacity battery and couldn't be happier. On average I now get about
4-4 1/2 hours on a charge.
One of the most helpful reviews described a method of charging the battery to allow it to hold
maximum charge over time. Basically charge the battery overnight before first use. Then use until
charge remaining is less than 10%. Repeat this three times and the battery will now hold maximum
charge over time. I have had mine for about a month and it is so nice not to need to charge
after every use like I did with the Dell stock battery.
I purchased this battery on May 7th 2013. So I was surprised and disappointed when woke up one morning to find that the battery is no longer being recognized by my dell inspiron laptop.
I replaced the battery with the original, which i did not discard, to determine whether the laptop was the issue but the old battery was immediately recognized.
I am truly disappointed.
OK I am back. I have to sing praises to the customer service at AnkerDirect. Mere days after posting my review, AnkerDirect Customer Support contacted me by e-mail with an offer of a battery to replace the one that stopped being recognized. The representative responded quickly to all questions and concerns I had. I found this to be very reassuring commendable.
The battery took a little longer than the expected delivery date to arrive but it did arrive at no cost to me.
I installed the battery which came with a 90% charge gave it a sixteen hour charge. so far it is working perfect. It is now going through a discharge cycle and after web browsing for 35 minutes, it is reporting a 93% charge with 5hrs 56min runtime remaining. I Will let it discharge to about 40% then recharge and update my post.
I must end by commending AnkerDirect for the great after sales service received. It has brought some 'sunshine' to my otherwise gloomy feeling. I was going to be cautious and up my rating to a 3 star but gave it a 4 star because of the great service.
It was a top line Dell when I had purchased it for myself 4 years earlier, and I upgraded the memory, put in a larger hard drive and replaced the battery (which had become almost useless).
When it comes to spare batteries for my computing devices (laptops, tablets & smartphones), I only buy Anker...and for a very good reason: they are the closest thing to the manufacturer's original battery. They provide a strong warranty, the batteries last as long as the original, and they provide lots of use out of each charge. In fact, Anker sent me an email a month after I purchased this battery, wanting to make sure that it was living up to my expectations!
Next week, I am picking up my son from college, and he says that the Anker battery has never once run out of juice during his time in-class...and, has had no problems of any kind. Anker batteries cost more than the 'no-name' batteries...but, it's worth every penny
These batteries hold a lot more energy compared to the original, and because of this, they are bigger and no longer allow the laptop to sit flat. But this isn't a negative, and it provides a better angle for typing, and the bottom of the battery has two rubber feet that prevent the laptop from sliding. Nice touch.
I also replaced the hard drive with an SSD, bumped the RAM from 6GB to 8GB, and installed a fresh copy of Linux Mint 18. When the laptop is idle, the battery estimator quotes 8 hours of run time from a freshly charged battery. Wow!
Hopefully these will last 2-3 years to allow the continued use of these aging laptops.
