Wifi interference with Macbook Pro 2016

I got this hub so that I could connect a keyboard and mouse to my Macbook Pro 2016 with power delivery. It supplied power and worked for about 6 hours of use with the keyboard and mouse plugged. Then all of a sudden my wifi stopped working, going in and out. I've had no trouble with the wifi connection while connected to the USB-C power supply that came with the Macbook. When I disconnected the Anker hub, the wifi immediately connected. When I plug the hub back-in, the wifi drops. The wifi issues persist even without anything connected to the hub, power or usb mouse/keyboard.

On the outside, the Anker hub is solid. I was impressed by the cable length and the 6 hours of use I got out of it. But it seems I'm going to have to return it.

Update after some more testing:
So it turns out that the USB hub can cause interference with the wifi signal, under the right conditions. The problem is entirely radio interference, not hardware compatibility. Intel has even published a whitepaper about this effect (Google this: "USB 3.0* Radio Frequency Interference on 2.4 GHz Devices").

If I setup a constant ping to my wifi router before I plugin the USB hub, I see the connection drop immediately once it's plugged in. Now, if I touch the cable on the USB hub with my bare hands, I absorb the interference and my wifi connection reconnects and the pings startup again. I also verified this with the signal analyzer in the wireless diagnostic tools that comes with macOS. The noise lelvel drops when I touch the cable or put a stainless steel bowl over the cable.

As a side not, if I'm in the same room as the wifi router with the usb hub plugged in, the wifi signal from the router is strong enough to overcome the interference generated by the hub. But if I'm upstairs where my office is, the USB hub is a wifi jammer for my Macbook Pro. The noise generated by the USB hub is almost equal to the RSSI of the wifi signal. :(

Dead after a few weeks (but it got better)

Edit: After receiving customer support from Anker I've got it working again for now. The suggested fix they provided of disconnecting it from everything for 5 minutes and then plugging it back in seems to have it working again. I had unplugged it before I left the initial review, but only from the computer, I forgot that the power supply was plugged into the other end so it was still receiving power. I've upgraded my review from 1 star to 3 star both for the customer service and because I was able to get it working again, but I'm not giving it a higher score because it still died in the first place. Original review follows.

Worked fine for a few weeks, but now none of the USB ports work. When I plugged this in this morning my laptop recognized that it was being charged, but any devices plugged into this don't register. It looks like the USB hub fried at some point. Additionally I received warnings occasionally that this device was drawing too much power when I would first plug it in, so it looks like maybe Anker skimped on the power regulation circuitry on the USB hub.

not sure why some people are having wifi issues, but, no problem here; this is a great purchase. i bought TWO cheaper hubs (to power my 12" macbook, and use usb speakers and external drives), and both had ridiculous problems.

it's a lot larger than the cheaper ones, but this one works, consistently. wish i'd just gone for it first, but some of the warning reviews sent me running. anyway, glad i've got this, and it's working so well. will be wary of cheap peripherals from now on.

edit: docking it one star; it it disconnects from my macbook too easily. i sometimes find myself running on the battery, at my desk, without having moved my mac. a better connection would have made this perfect.

Wifi Interference Issues No Joke - Pay Heed

This product had been recommended by a tech blog I follow and have had great experiences with in the past; unfortunately I should have paid heed to the reviews here on Amazon.

My first issue was that USB-C connection to my MacBook was really tight, to the point where is needed a very firm push to insert it. As soon as I did, my wifi connection stopped working (WITHOUT passthrough power connected). I had read some reviews which stated that the wifi connection issue was due to the fact that the passthrough power wasn't connected, so I hooked it up; wifi started working, but the connection was so incredibly slow as to be unusable.

This product was returned the day after I received it as I expect a solid connection.

Really didn't expect this to work. I'm not used to these new USB-C ports that let you charge your laptop by connecting your charge to the port. But that takes up the whole port. This is perfect, giving me 3 powered USB 3.0 ports, and still charges the laptop. The only complaint I have is that the cable isn't very flexible. Since the cable itself plugs into your Tablet, you can see it takes up a considerable amount of desk space (usually reserved for my external mouse). I can manage to angle it well enough, so it's only a small complaint. But worth noting. Fine for Airports, desks, but in a small area like a coffee shop...may not be worth using because of limited space.

I use this all the time with my 2016 MacBook (Retina, 12-inch) - not Pro - with no problems at all. It passes through power just fine. I usually have two USB devices plugged into it at once. I have used it successfully to charge and sync my iPhone 6, to charge an iPhone USB power supply, to run an Apple USB SuperDrive, and to transfer photos from a small Canon camera (the Photos app opens on connect). I have not noticed any wifi problems when I am using it. I have two other Anker products, and they also work well.

Bought in December at the same time I bought my Mac. Immediately, it didn't recognize my Ipod Nano. After 4 months, it also stopped recognizing and charging my iPhone 6, so it's now basically useless.

To the company's credit, when I reported to them about the problem with the iPod, they refunded some of my money. Once I reported that it had also stopped charging my iPhone, the company contacted me immediately and offered more than fair compensation. Nice to at least see a company that stands behind it's product.
