This a pricey power station/bank or "solar generator". It's useful for powering a mobile office for a week or small appliances (up to 500W) for 45min to a few hours. A solar panel can be connected to extend runtime while off-grid.
Anything that stores a lot of energy can be extremely dangerous, and I think Anker has made the right decision to use "Lithium iron" batteries (likely LiFePo4) here. It makes the device a few pounds heavier, but it's much safer and offers significantly more wear resistance (~2000 cycle count vs 500) compared with lighter counterparts.
Compared to the Jackery 500 (Jan 2022), Anker 535 is better in almost every way... but it's only a matter of time until Jackery updates their version. Anker uses a safer battery, has a longer lifecycle, charges faster, nicer display, and has significantly more useful ports. A couple things that Jackery 500 has over Anker 535 is the ability to handle surges up to 1000W, possibly better efficiency, and larger range of operating temperatures (down to -10C vs 0C).
When considering other products in the ~500Wh & ~500W category that use the same battery chemistry, there are a couple compelling options. Independent testing is necessary to validate claims.
- $400 GoLabs R500. Cheaper and similar capability.
- $499 BLUETTI EB55. Higher input and output power.
How can the Anker 535 improved? Considering how competitive this market is, and the endless one-upping of specs, Anker could do something different and be more transparent. The could get their engineers to explain in technical detail what they did to make the product safe. This is one area that can distinguish a product from the rest, since Anker has steadily built a reputation on reliability.
