Apple calls 18W charging “Fast Charge” and it makes use of new USB-C PD (Power Delivery) chargers. Because this page says "Fast Charging of iPhone" I though this would provide the same sort of charge, but it does not. Anker might use the term “Fast Charge” but they mean something different than what Apple means.
No matter what iPhone or iPad you have, this device will never charger it faster than 12W. A real USB-C Power Delivery 18W charger with a USB-C to Lightning cable can take an iPhone 8 or iPhone XS from 1% to 50% in 30 minutes, and this can’t do that.
That said, this is still a solid Anker product and will certainly charge your phone faster than the default 5W charger that Apple gives you, but it won’t charge recent iPhones as fast as possible.
There’s little reason to get this if you’ll only be using it with Apple devices since you can never take advantage of the true 18W Fast Charging. To confirm this, I even got a power meter and measured the voltage/amps. (It maxes out at 5v/2.3A or ~12W on my iPhone X)
Apple users should get Anker's other batteries with USB-C PD (Power Delivery) or just the older PowerIQ 1.0 products since they'll charge Apple devices at the same speed. This cheaper Anker battery with the same capacity will charge iPhones/iPads at the same rate, or this newer Anker battery with USB-C Power Delivery will get you the fastest 18W charge possible. They're from Anker so I'm sure they're both great and their marketing is more straightforward about their capabilities.
edit: I messaged Anker about this and that's been an excellent experience. The rep I talked to was very communicative and willing to delve into the technical details of things. They acknowledged the issue and have made some updates to this page to prevent people like me from getting confused in the future. That said using the phrase "Fast Charging for iPhone" is still quite confusing since it means something very different from what Apple says it means. They definitely made some good clarifications on this page though so I changed this from 2-star to 3-stars.
Only thing that wasn't clearly explained (or I missed it), was that it can only be brought into a plane as CARRY On. it CAN NOT be put in checked luggage. I found this out after calling Anker to answer this question. The Anker rep told me that I could always check with the airlines directly if I still had a concern. I definitely do no want the device confiscated at TSA checkpoints if it wasn't allowed. Too costly to lose!
I called because of the recent lithium-ion battery issues on planes and wanted to be certain of the rules.
I needed to buy charging cables for my phone recently and this device helped me to determine, on the spot, that the 3rd party cables wouldn't charge my version of the iPhone. I was able to return the cables and test another set of cables for a charge without having to find my own wall outlet or go to my car. Very convenient for me.
The device holds a good amount of charge capacity so it doesn't need to be fully charged to charge your phone well. However, it you like to see the PowerCore always at a full charge, be aware that it will take some time to completely charge the Anker PowerCore (hours). The size of PowerCore is a bit long, which I understand, but it makes it difficult to charge devices somewhat in your pocket or on your person if you don't have a carry-on bag/backpack/purse or a coat with large pockets.
**UPDATE: See bottom for Anker response to my Cons** -- because of great customer service and the explanations, I will update to 5 stars.
- Carries a big charge at full capacity (capable of charging iPad tablets, phones, etc.)
- Charges up to two devices via USB (be careful to check your cables as some do not work with devices by model)
- Convenience to charge your devices at any location (bed, table, anywhere)
- Takes a while to charge up to full capacity (even with 5V 2.1 Amp charger -- but you don't need full to charge your phone completely)
- Cannot receive a charge and charge other devices at the same time
- Size is a bit long so it may be difficult to use on your person/on-the-go if can't stop or put it down somewhere or in a purse/bag
Anker response to Cons: (shortening response to details)
1) "Though we are trying our best to make it more compact, as it contains 6 cells of battery inside, it might not fit completely when putting it in a pocket. However, we will file out your feedback and suggestion our future product's improvement and design."
2) "Please kindly understand that we actually made the decision to remove this function from our portable chargers. Because when pass-through charging, if there is a difference between the output of the wall charger and the input of the device being recharged it can cause the portable charger to rapidly power on and off. This increases charging times for both the portable charger and your device, risks causing damage to the battery cells and can significantly shorten the portable charger's lifespan."
3) "What concerns us is that this model seems to take long time to recharge itself for you. We have made an improvement of this model by enabling the quick recharge feature. Per our internal test, it shall be able to recharge fully with about 5 hours when you using a QC 3.0 wall charger. But if you use a 5V/2A wall charger such as iPad charger, it shall take around 10 hours then."

商品名：Anker PowerPort I PD - 1 PD & 4 PowerIQ【Power Delivery対応 60W 5ポート USB-C急速充電器】

The problem comes when you want to return this item as , royal mail and other couriers don't allow private individuals to return lithium ion cells via their services unless it is part of a device. Amazon only provide a you pay and return label , not the usual My Hermes collection or pass my parcel service????
I have bought 2 power banks from Anker, the first one was the power core 1, this performed very well but was unfortunately stolen. I didn't hesitate in deciding to purchase the newer power core 2 as I knew this was a quality product.
The battery life is outstanding, I own an S10 phone which i can re-charge at least 8 or 9 times. I also re charge a twin battery vape mod every other day. This power bank will last me on a full charge at least 1 week. It's just great to know you have power with you and you ain't running out! There are to outputs, an 18w output capable of fast charging an s10 or equivalent phone. A 2nd 12w output is capable of charging all usb devices at the normal rate.
The power bank is fairly heavy and i'm guessing most people would rather carry it in a bag rather than carry it in a pocket. It does come with a nice little padded carry pouch that definitely helps protect this already very robust item.
Around 1 month after purchase (April 2018) I noticed that the 12w output wasn't working, I decided that rather than go through the hassle of sending it back i'd be happy to use it with just 1 working output.
Fast forward to September 2019 and i decided to contact Anker customer service to ask if there was a possibility of getting the power bank fixed as I was going on holiday and the extra output would be useful.
I have had experience of dealing with Anker customer services before when they generously replaced a broken set of sound buds lite. This time they exceeded all expectations once gain. After approximately 24hrs they replied to my email asking for a few details of my purchase and a photo. I sent the required information and within a couple of days Anker replied to say they'd happily send me a NEW power core 2 and said I could keep the old one.
This is customer service that goes above and beyond every time! No one else comes close to this level of attention. This coupled with the fact that the actual products are seriously good quality especially for the price range, gives me real confidence in every purchase I make from this excellent company.
Since this happened i have just purchased Ankers Zolo liberty earbuds [upgraded] for £69.99 and without a shred of doubt in my mind.
I recommend any product this company produce. I own 2 power banks, 2 bluetooth speakers, and 3 sets of headphones/buds all of which i'm very happy with.
The PowerCore II follows those same principles; the product feels strong, heavy and solidly made.
It features: two USB output ports, a micro usb input for charging the bank and a LED button which indicates how much charge is left on the PowerCore.
It also arrives with a drawstring pouch so you can keep it safe in your bag.
The 20000 mAh provides alot of charge; I fully charged my Pixel 2 on it 3 times and it had only bitten through 2 thirds of the banks storage. Due to the large capacity it does take a couple of hours to fully charge from empty (which is to be expected). I also felt that the bank charged my devices at a sufficient speed, on average to how they'd normally charge through mains and sometimes better.
The price is great and is definitely worth a purchase. A powerbank is extremely useful when you're out the house for long periods, a must have piece of kit in modern life.
I had a Swees powerbank beforehand; one of the ports broke within a couple of weeks and a few weeks later it completely died on me. In comparison the Anker outshines
This is the kit that will get you out of a tight spot when you are lost, need Google maps and you're low on mobile phone or tablet battery. It's a travel essential.
You can also legally take it in hand luggage on a plane.
2 points, one high speed.
Allows me to keep 2/3 people charged throughout the whole day of working, blogging and Geotourist mapping.
A bit too big to be comfortable in trouser pockets.
Nice led details when charging.
Remember to keep this one topped too. Due to large capacity, you may become complacent that it'll always be ready for use.
