For folks on the go, portable power is a must to keep your gadgets going. For those that can only afford to carry a small power pack in their purse or coat pocket, the Anker PowerCore 5000 is a perfect fit.

The PowerCore 5000 is an attractive matte black cylinder-shaped power bank. On the top of the device you get a microUSB input port (2A) and your PowerIQ output port (also up to 2A). This is not bad at all for this size of charger. I have a RAVPower Luster PB08 lipstick style charger, but it can only input/output 1A. So you not only get faster charging of your phone, but also of the charger itself. On the sides of the PowerCore you get three indicator lights showing battery level and a power button. Finding power indicator lights is also rare and very nice for a “mini” portable charger of this size. Very simple and sleek design.

I must point out that you also get some nice extras that other power banks simply do not include. You get a nice quality microUSB cable and a very nice textured carrying case. This will keep your device in tip top shape as it will be protected from everyday bumps and scrapes.

So onto testing. I successfully charged an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6S+, and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with this charger. No, you don’t get QuickCharge 2.0, but charging at 2A is still plenty quick and a huge leap over your standard 1A chargers. I managed to charge my S7 Edge one complete charge and then 30-40% on the next charge. Very nice capacity for as small as this device is.

Not much not to like here with the PowerCore 5000. I suppose if I were king for a day, the one thing I would like to see added to this device is a built in flashlight. But overall, this mini charger has impressive capacity, features, performance, and nice extras. For those days when you can’t lug around a high capacity power bank, this is a perfect daily companion.

I received this as an Evaluation from Anker.

It arrived with 66% charge according to the 3 light indicators, I plugged it in and it took about an hour to get to full charge from that point. I'm a klutz so I knocked it off of the desk and it dropped about 4 feet to the floor and it didn't show any signs of scratches or cracks. The build quality is awesome, it doesn't feel like I'm going to break it.

I work with a few people so I tested charging various phones...
a Samsung S4 took an hour to charge from 65%-100%,
I dug out an iPhone 4 that was completely drained in 8 minutes it had a 10% charge, after an hour it had 45% and was completely charged after 2 hours 20 minutes
Then I hooked it up to a Nokia 830 and in 2 hours and 30 minutes went from 47% to 100% charge
Then I hooked up another Nokia 830 and in an hour it went from 17% to 38% charge before the PowerCore 5000 ran out of charge

I hooked it up to a USB power brick and charged it up through an outlet which took 4 hours and 30 minutes.

I travel a lot as I'm in IT as well as a photographer and always get the question on where they can charge, now I toss them this little device and they stare at it for a couple of minutes while watching it power their device.

It is a good size product, the diameter is about the size of a soda bottle cap and about 4 inches long, a little smaller than an empty toilet paper roll
It came with a little pouch which protects it as it bounces around in my backpack.

It has 1 input and 1 output the output is 2A and includes the charging cable, if you want to charge it from the wall you will need a USB power adapter, Anker sells those too.

I would recommend this to anyone that travels, or is not able to leave their phone in one spot to charge.

So let start off with anker sent me this small but power compact portable battey. Love the way they give you a travel pouch so you can put which ever cord you use on your devices ( Lightning or micro usb). Im quite familiar with anker products and this one is no exception to there quality. Its vary sharp looking with a feel that the material are stong so i have confidence that this little device will last a long time.

So I took it for a spin on my old dead iphone 5c it took about 48min the get the iphone to 50% from 0% and the battery itself still has most of its battey charge in it. So for a full charge with its IQ charging tech. It would charge up my phone in a little less then two hours thats the same as any wall charger so if you want safe power-to-go i would say this is your go to battery

P.s one picture is of the anker PowerCore 5000(left) the other is the anker mini 3200(right) size comparison

Good Power Bank so far

Opening
Opening the box was good. Their other products have a better feel to the packaging but this is still better than other vendors.

Appearance of the item
The bank itself has a less weight than I anticipated. It has a matte plastic exterior (and it definitely feels plasticky) with glossy circular ends (bottom and the face where the USB ports are). The included micro usb is similar to the ones included in their other products.

Charging
Charges phones pretty fast (puts out 2 A). The capacity also allow me to charge my phone (iphone 6) once and a bit more.

Competition/Alternatives
I purchased 2 other power banks: the Powercore+ mini 3350 and the Powercore+ 13400. The Mini is definitely smaller but it also carries less charge. I think this is what caused me to overestimate the weight on the Powercore 5000 (PC5) since the Mini seems to be a bit denser. I tend to prefer denser devices--not for some weight-to-quality reasoning--as it tells me that I'm carrying the necessary weight without having to sacrifice space. Although I am sure it is a mix of design as well as material choice as the Mini shell is aluminum whereas the PC5 has a plastic shell. What I do like about the PC5 over the Mini: 1) is the LED indicator lights that light up when charging or when the button is pressed (the Mini has a single LED that change color (Green, Amber, Red). 2) 2 A charging output for the PC5 vs 1 A charging output for the mini.
The 13400 is larger and heftier with an aluminum shell.

Suggestion
Short power boosts: I'd go for the Mini ($10 on Amazon). It's smaller and fits in your pocket or purse better and it has a better look and feel to it.
