I can confirm that this battery bank will charge the switch while playing. I ran my switch down to 14% battery playing Breath of the Wild and plugged in the Anker PowerCore+. After continuing to play BOTW for a couple hours with the charger connected, the battery was up to 50%. Considering how much of a power hog BOTW is, this is pretty good, AND I never had to stop playing.
Pro Tip: When I first connected the Anker PowerCore+ to the switch, the switch wasn't charging. Then I remembered that the instructions had said you have to power on the battery bank first to swap from power in to power out on the USB-C port. Always follow the instructions.
EDIT - now 4 years in!
The aforementioned USB-C issue still annoys but I guess I just lived with it. The capacity is obviously a lot less than it was new. Instead of being hooked to my Macbook for 2-3 days it's usually change it every morning with my other one. But it's hard to complain since it's the nature of the technology and the fact this has lasted so long.
In my situation I plugin the Anker battery to my laptop and go to sleep. While I sleep the laptop gets charged, then in the middle of the night the laptop starts charging the Anker battery(since it ran out of charge) switch roles automatically. When i wake up I have a near dead laptop battery.
Anker customer support said this is a flaw and they cannot do anything to address it.

The trick is to power on the charger (the LED lights should stay on) BEFORE plugging in your USB-C device. If you just plug a device to the USB-C port without first powering on the charger, then your device will end up charging the battery pack. By powering on the battery pack first, power will flow from the charger to your device.
To charge another device using the battery pack's USB-C port:
1) Remove any devices plugged into charger's USB-C port
2) Power ON charger (LEDs on)
3) Plug device into charger's USB-C port
To charge the battery in the charger:
1) Remove any devices plugged into charger's USB-C port
2) Power OFF charger (LEDs off)
3) Plug device into charger's USB-C port
Now, onto the actual review:
Having one of Anker's older chargers, it sucked being limited to 2 output ports; I'd have to either juggle between my devices using the 2 ports, or to sit down near an outlet so I can charge more than 2 things at once. Being able to charge through the USB-C port now lets me charge up to 3 devices at once on a single battery pack! Even better, since the MacBook has a USB-C port as well, I can just use my MacBook's USB-C to USB-C cable to charge in either direction! Anker does provide a USB-A to USB-C cable for those that don’t have a USB-C device to charge the battery pack.
I do hope Anker will include the USB-C port in their smaller capacity battery packs as well, as this one is a little too long for my taste (the old 13000 mAh Astro E4 was ideal for me in terms of size). However, I do love the aluminum casing on this pack; definitely feels like a premium product, and I bet it'll help with dissipating heat if really cranking out the wattage.
Speaking of wattage, I've always been trying to find portable charging solutions for my 12" MacBook. When plugged into the USB-C port of the charger or using Anker's own USB-A to USB-C cable through one of the other 2 ports, my MacBook reports 15 W of power, even with an iPhone and an Apple Watch plugged into the other 2 USB ports. To compare, Apple's own AC adapter for this MacBook outputs 29 W of power, so I'd assume that the MacBook will charge roughly half as fast using this battery pack. With 20100 mAh capacity, this battery pack has more than enough capacity to fully charge my notebook, phone, and watch before having to recharge.

Sadly, last week I noticed that it would not charge any of my devices. It seems that both USB output ports are effectively dead.
Not sure if I will purchase again.
**9/18/16 UPDATE
Anker sent me a replacement unit and it is working great! Great to see a manufacturer stand behind their product!
***3/27/17 UPDATE 2
One of the USB 2.0 ports has suddenly stopped working. As I only use this battery pack once a month in an indoor setting, its tough to think that it this is normal wear and tear.
Top reviews from other countries
It does feel like a solid product, but I can't give a positive review if it breaks after hardly more than half a year.
I rated 2 stars because of this experience and end the story almost until I received a mail from the seller expressed faithfully sorry of not making it clear in the first place. they then offer me a product return or a percentage of refund if I decided to keep using the product.
I was truly impressed I have to say, and greatly appreciated the attitude of spending effort making their customer happy. this is a perfect example of turn an unhappy customer into loyalty!
- Feels like it won't break. Build quality for power button, cables, and ports are top notch after 6 months
- Huge battery capacity
- Charges fast
Cons:
- Feels like a brick. I'm aware of the battery capacity but it just doesn't fit in half of my pants pockets
- Somewhat slippery and doesn't grip too well. The small pocket bag it comes with relieves this issue but it won't protect the charger from dents.
- Said pocket bag is wearing out after 6 months.
