Connect virtually any device or peripheral you can imagine thanks to a Thunderbolt 4 upstream port, a Thunderbolt 4 downstream port, a USB-C Power Delivery port, 2 HDMI ports, an Ethernet port, SD card slot, a 3.5 mm AUX port, and 4 USB-A ports.

A8397

Thunderbolt 4 makes getting more from your laptop a breeze. Transfer files, connect an external monitor, and power your laptop all from a single port. That leaves plenty of ports free to accomplish all of your other tasks. Thunderbolt 4 even features compliance with a range of specifications including previous versions of Thunderbolt, USB4, DisplayPort, and PCI Express (PCIe).

Compatibility Information

  • Compatible with Windows 10 laptops equipped with a Thunderbolt 4 port (Intel Evo Platform), and non-M1 MacBooks running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later.
  • Not compatible with Linux or ChromeOS laptops, Thunderbolt 3 Windows laptops, M1/M2 MacBooks, or M1 Max/Pro MacBooks running macOS 10.16 or earlier.

Note:

  • If you cannot detect the dock after updating to macOS Ventura, please follow these steps: Privacy & Security > Allow accessories to connect.

macOS doesn't support Multi-Stream Transport (MST), and as such, all content displayed via the HDMI ports will be mirrored.

A83971A1_data_EN_分辨率

  • The table above shows the maximum supported resolutions. Actual resolution varies based on the specifications of the host device.
  • MacBooks with the Apple M1/M2 chip only support single monitor display.
  • Intel based MacBooks, Apple M1 Max/Pro MacBooks, and Apple M2 Max/Pro MacBooks support dual monitor display with extended desktop when using a USB-C to HDMI video adapter (not included). Connecting to two monitors using the two HDMI ports will only mirror your desktop.
  • This dock can support up to three simultaneous monitor connections. The number of monitors that can be used with your laptop depends upon the power of your laptop and its graphics card capabilities. Not all laptops have the graphics capabilities to support multiple monitors and you may encounter display issues when attempting to use multiple displays.

Determining Your DisplayPort (DP) Version: The version of DP on your laptop, computer, or tablet directly determines the actual resolution when connecting to external monitors using the Anker hub. There are three simple ways to find out which version of DP your device has.

1. Ask your device manufacturer or seller directly.

2. If you're using a Windows device, you can tell which version of DP you have by checking your CPU generation.

  • DP version 1.2 if your CPU is Intel generation 10 or earlier.
  • DP version 1.4 if your CPU is Intel generation 11 or later.
  • DP version 1.4 if you're using a workstation laptop with an NVIDIA GPU.

Don't know how to find your CPU generation? Simply go to This PC (or My Computer) > Properties and look for the number (shown in bold and underlined below):

Processer: Intel(R) Core i7-8850H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59Ghz

3. If you're using a MacBook, iMac, or iPad, you can find your DP version from the list below:

DP 1.4: iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017 and later), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports, 2020), MacBook Air (2020), MacBook Air (13-inch, M1, 2020), MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020), MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021), MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021), iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017 and later), iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017 and later), and iMac Pro (2017 and later)

DP 1.2: iPad Air (4th generation), MacBook Air (2018 and later), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016 and later), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016), iMac (non-Retina, 21.5‑inch, 2017), and Mac mini (2018)

  • 90W Max Charging: Use a Thunderbolt 4 cable to keep your laptop powered up while you’re working.
  • The USB-A data ports do not support charging.

FAQ

Q1: Can this dock support fast charging for my devices?

A1: This dock supports up to 90W of charging via the Thunderbolt 4 upstream port on the front of the dock (indicated with a computer icon). This means that if your laptop comes with a 100W or above power adapter, the charging speed will be slower than you’re used to. The USB-C Power Delivery port (indicated by “PD”) supports up to 20W fast charging for your phone. The Thunderbolt 4 downstream port supports 15W charging for smaller devices.

The USB-A data ports on the back of the dock do not support charging.

Q2: Will this dock work with any laptop? What kind of cable should I use to connect the dock to my laptop?

A2:No, this dock only works with Windows laptops equipped with a Thunderbolt 4 port (Intel Evo Platform), and non-M1 MacBooks running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later. It is recommended to use a Thunderbolt 4.0 cable.

Q3: How to deal with screen drop, black screen, or screen flickering issues when connecting to an external monitor?

A3: After the dock has just been connected to the external monitor, it's normal for there to be some degree of flickering. It should go away in a few seconds. If this problem persists, try lowering the resolution.

If you experience any screen issues after waking up your laptop, restart the dock. If your laptop or the docking station has not been shut down for a long time and you’re experiencing screen issues, please restart the dock.

Q4: Sometimes the dock doesn’t automatically reconnect after I wake up or restart my laptop. What should I do?

A4: This situation doesn’t happen very often, but if you are having this problem, try disconnecting and reconnecting the Thunderbolt 4 cable.

Q5: Why does the dock feel warm?

A5: When charging or transferring data at high speed, the dock’s temperature may increase. Don't worry, this is within the normal limits of the dock’s operation. To avoid excessive heat, make sure not to place any objects on top of the dock or to cover the dock with anything.

Nearly perfect docking hub

Nearly perfect docking hub
I did a lot of shopping and research to find a good docking hub. The Anker Apex 12-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 docking station was a newly released product at the time and there weren't many any substantial reviews at the time. As a fan of the Anker brand I went with the Anker Apex Thunderbolt 4 docking station. I posted a video on YT of the unboxing that has received a lot of views since posting. Now that I've used it for a few months here are my observations. The dock has a solid feel and nice finish. First impressions were very favorable to the build quality. The small footprint is also nice, but it would have been even better if the vertical stand was included rather than a separate purchase. The ports on the front are fairly self-explanatory. There is only a full size SD memory card slot, so if you are using a micro (in a GoPro or such) you'll need the adaptor. Many other hubs on the market have both a micro and full size. Fortunately I had an adapter from an old camera so I just keep it in the docking station to facilitate reading my micro SD cards. As another user experienced, I am also needing to use my laptop power supply for my Dell XPS 17 since the dock at max rate of 90w isn't enough.Be sure to pay attention to which USB ports you are using on the back for which type of device you are plugging in. I made the mistake initially of attempting to download direct from my camera through one of the USB-A 2.0 (480 Mbps) ports rather than the USB-A 3.1 (10 Gbps)! Huge difference in transfer speeds! The TB-4 ports (one rear and one front) I use for portable SSD drives or other cameras that have a USB-C style port and it works well.I haven't purchased an external monitor, but I did plug the HDMI up to my 65" Samsung smart tv to test and it appeared to work well. I am all wireless, so I also haven't used the Ethernet port.[PHOTOS] The only issues I've encountered so far is that one of the USB-A 3.1 (the fast ones!) partially broke inside a cable when I was removing it. This was very strange as there was no pressure on the cable other than me pulling it straight out and I didn't realize that part of the blue plastic from inside the port had broken and was lodged inside my cable until the I attempted to plug in my next USB cable. Needless to say, now cables fit rather loosely and I sometimes have to wiggle them into the proper position for a good connection, but I can *usually* achieve a connection. Despite this, I would still recommend the Anker Apex 12-in-1 Thunderbolt Docking station, but this is the reason for the 1-star reduction.BOTTOM LINE: I'm still a huge fan of Anker (5 power packs, dozens of cables, wireless chargers, wall chargers, AC power cords, and even a Nebula projector!) so I will continue to purchase their products, including the Apex Thunderbolt 4 12-in-1 Docking Station, and recommend it to others.

I recently purchased the Anker 777 Thunderbolt Docking Station (Apex, 12-in-1, Thunderbolt 4) and it has transformed my workspace in the best way possible. As someone who juggles multiple devices and peripherals daily, this docking station is an absolute game-changer.

First and foremost, the build quality of the Anker 777 is impressive. It feels solid and durable, with a sleek, modern design that complements any setup. The compact form factor is a bonus, ensuring that it doesn’t take up too much space on my desk.

The versatility of this docking station is where it truly shines. With 12 different ports, I can connect all my essential devices simultaneously. It includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, four USB-A ports, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, an SD card reader, and even an audio jack. This wide array of connections means I can effortlessly link my laptop, external monitors, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals without constantly swapping cables.

The Thunderbolt 4 capability is another highlight. The data transfer speeds are incredibly fast, and I can daisy-chain multiple Thunderbolt devices without any performance drop. This has significantly boosted my productivity, especially when working with large files and high-resolution displays.

Charging is also a breeze with the Anker 777. The max 90W charging output ensures that my laptop stays powered throughout the day, even when all ports are in use. This eliminates the need for multiple chargers and keeps my workspace clutter-free.

Setting up the docking station was straightforward. It’s essentially plug-and-play, and I had it up and running in minutes. The compatibility with both Windows and Mac systems adds to its convenience, making it a versatile choice for any user.

Overall, the Anker 777 Thunderbolt Docking Station has exceeded my expectations. It combines excellent build quality, a wide range of connectivity options, and top-notch performance. If you’re looking to streamline your workspace and enhance your productivity, I highly recommend this docking station. It’s a worthwhile investment for anyone who needs a reliable and efficient hub for their devices.

I bought this product in November of 2021. I am using it with a new Dell XPS w/ 11gen Intel I7 and Windows 10 pro. I have two displays connected. Display 1 is an LG 32” UHD HDR10 Monitor with AMD FreeSync. Display 2 is an older Dell 27" 1080p ultrawide. Both displays connect via an HDMI cable. I have connected the Apex 12 via a Thunderbolt USB-C cable to my XPS laptop..

In all honesty, there is not all that much to say. It works exactly as advertised. It was very simple to unbox and connect and all there was to do after all the cables were connected was to press the "ON" button. Everything connected seamlessly and there were no issues. I have been using this daily for the past two weeks and have had no issues.

Positives. First, my new laptop has a 3480x2160 UHD display. I had a prior Anker docking station that only supported 1080p which was the primary why I upgraded to the new Apex 12. The Apex 12 seems to handle the higher resolution with no issues. I was having a lot of issues when using my old docking station while trying to use my video editing and creation software. Those issues are now gone.

Second, the Thunderbolt-4 interface from the Apex 12 to my laptop is really nice. With my older Anker docking station I had a USB cable connecting to my laptop, a power supply for the laptop and a power supply for the docking station. Now I have one power supply to the Apex 12 and a USB C cable connecting the Apex 12 to the laptop. Everything is much simplified.

Third, I have a Toshiba Canvio Advance 4TB external hard disk that I keep a lot of my files on. I do a lot of video creation and editing and the loading and saving of files from the hard disk connected to the docking station seems to be much improved. I can't really quantify it, but it seems faster.

Fourth, I love the USB-C port on the front for quickly connecting my phone or other devices. It's nice not having to hunt for a port on the back of the device. Being on the front is super handy.

Negatives? My primary complaint is the stand that allows the unit to stand up vertically must be bought separately. In my opinion it should have come with the Apex 12 as it is really needed and I did buy it after receiving and setting up the product. My minor complaint is I wish it had more USB-A high speed ports. The Apex 12 has 4 USB-A ports on the rear (2 high speed and 2 standard). I still have peripherals that I need to connect (microphone, Logitech camera, external hard drive, etc.) that use USB-A so having more than 2 high speed ports would help.

I will note a couple items of additional issues that I have encountered.

Issue 1 is an intermittent warning from my Dell completer stating that the power being supplied by the Apex 12 was not sufficient and to change power supplies. At first this a mildly annoying, but then the notices were constant and it was really pissing me off. And suddenly the notices have gone away. So not sure at all what the issue was or is or whether it will come back. That said, there was never an adverse issue with my computer or it's functions. The battery charged up nicely and no functions were lost or impaired. So who knows. That issue, for now, is gone.

Issue 2 is my older (2014-2015 era) Dell Monitor. If I am not actively using the monitor it seems to go to sleep and the monitor goes dark. I have to touch the on/off button and it comes back to life. I honestly do not know if it is a monitor issue or a computer issue or an Apex 12 issue.

So, I guess, if I could, I would give it 4-1/2 stars. It isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn good. But I can only do 4-stars or 5. So.... Drumroll please... I am giving it 4-stars. If the stand that they sell separately had come with the Apex 12 I would have given it 5-stars. But I had to buy it separately and it was really needed and since I think they should have supplied it as part of the package I am cutting a star off.

I am very happy with this docking station. I've always used a desktop tower at home, and I talked to people who used a notebook with a docking station, so I decided to give it a try when I needed to purchase a new computer. I was pretty apprehensive about trying this setup, but I am very happy with it.

Here's what I have plugged in to this docking station: 32 inch Dell monitor, Blue Yeti mic, camera with a second mic, USB hub, 3.5mm speakers, Logitech wireless mouse, Logitech wireless trackball, Microsoft wireless keyboard, ethernet cable, Brother MFC printer, and it is powering my Dell XPS 13 as well as providing all of the connections. It does it all, and everything works well.

There's one issue, but I don't know if it is the fault of the docking station, the XPS 13, or Windows 11. The computer will not go to sleep with this device or shut down the monitor. If I sleep it or lock the screen, it will just sit there and turn all of the screens on and off every ten seconds or so. The solution is to turn the docking station off when I'm not using it. When I do that, the XPS 13 and external monitor both go to sleep within a few minutes, and all is well. It's not too much of an inconvenience to tap the on-off button on the Anker, and when I flip everything back on, everything wakes up as expected and Windows puts everything back on the appropriate screen in the previous location. As noted, however, it isn't clear which device is at fault.

Overall a great dock, as is all the stuff from Anker.

My only wish would be to see a dock with some DisplayPort capability and not just HDMI.

Otherwise, excellent product as always from Anker.

This item worked beautifully for 6 months. After that, the USB A ports stopped working. I tried to get a warranty exchange from Anker. After a few exchanges with them, they finally agreed that the item had become defective... but they couldn't replace it because they don't have any on hand and don't know when they would.

I asked for a replacement with the previous model but they couldn't do that either for whatever reason. So they offered a 60% refund which I had little choice but to accept it. I'm very disappointed with them. Their products are usually so good and reliable.
