Lightspeed Link-Up
Connect to the 1 gigabit ethernet port and access superfast network speeds of up to 1000Mbps. We've also thrown in a 1.3ft USB 3.0 Cable to make sure your data syncing is just as quick.
Keeping Things Light
What good is such versatility if you can't take it out? With no screws and a compact, unibody design, the Anker Unibody 3-Port Hub expands your capabilities, wherever you are.
Power Usage Alerts:
To ensure a stable connection, don't use this hub with high power-consumption devices such as some large-capacity hard drives.
This hub is not meant to serve as a stand-alone charger. It is not compatible with iPads or other devices which require a higher charging input.
System Requirements:
Windows (32/64 bit) 10 / 8.1 / 8 / 7 / Vista / XP, Mac OS X 10.6 to 10.9, Linux 2.6.14 or above.
On Windows, a driver needs to be manually installed to enable ethernet connection. No drivers required for data ports on all compatible systems.
Notes:
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 users should upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 or later to avoid unstable connections.
2.4Ghz wireless devices (keyboards, mice, etc.) may not work around USB 3.0 ports. Try using a USB 2.0 connection.

Overall the design and quality of the item is very good. All quality materials were used and it appears that it would have stood up to many trips in the travel electronics bag. Unfortunately the Ethernet adapter does not perform well at all. When plugged into the host PC and used to transfer large bursts of data over Ethernet (nothing plugged into the USB ports) the device gets unexpectedly hot. Not that it would burn your hand but hot enough to surprise you picking it up. In this respect the aluminum body acts as a great heat sink. Unfortunately it apparently gets hot enough where the die of the ASIC inside reaches a thermal tripping point and the part resets dropping the Ethernet connection. To recover you must pull the device from the host PC's USB port and re-insert. If the device still is warm from residual heat your next time between failures will be even shorter. If you have a large file to transfer you'll never get through it! Very frustrating. I ultimately had to switch back to my trusty "old" Cable Matters adapter which has a black plastic body and experiences no heating when doing sustained gigabit transfers. Needless to say that will be what stays in the electronics travel bag.
I guess this Anker device would work if you used it for light Internet surfing but I never know what I'll need to transfer when I travel and knowing that this device has the aforementioned thermal limitation makes it a non-starter for me. The idea of integrating the Ethernet adapter with a USB hub is so cool though that I'll be keeping an eye out for a similar competitor's device or word that Anker has upgraded the chipset in their product.
----------------- UPDATE 5/2016 -------------------
Shortly after my initial review I was contacted by Laura from Anker who was very kind and helpful. In spite of various efforts (drivers, host computers, etc.) I was unable to keep the device from overheating so Anker issued me a full refund. In spite of the device being defective I was extremely pleased with the support I received from Anker and Laura's willingness to make things right.
I have several other Anker devices that work superbly and I would still highly recommend Anker products based on those and now also the top-notch customer service I received. (+1 star)
*****UPDATE*****
so, i had purchased another NIC thinking it was an issue with Anker's NIC but interestingly, i had an identical issue. i was able to find a workaround by using my laptops USB 2.0 port instead of USB 3.0. for some reason, this has fixed the issue. obviously, it's an issue on my (laptop's) end so i've given the product 5 stars. also, Anker's customer service is absolutely phenomenal. they've been working with me to sort through some stuff. i've already purchased some other items from them and will continue to buy Anker products as long as they fit my needs.
The part number for this is A7514, featuring a traditional USB connector. Be sure you have the right device to meet your needs. There's another version of this hub, which has a USB-C connector on it (the new style, for the very newest MacBook laptops), instead of the traditional USB connector. Be sure you get the right one which matches what you have!
However, there is a weakness, and it's the built-in Ethernet chip that powers the Ethernet port, as others have pointed out. It's a Realtek RTL8153 chip, which isn't the greatest. It won't work "out of the box" on MacOS 10.13 High Sierra. However, after installing the driver from the Realtek website, and rebooting the Mac, it seems to work good enough. It's faster than Wi-Fi at my location.
To get the Realtek driver that you will need, do a Google search for "realtek RTL8153 macos driver download" (without quotation marks). Embedding links within an Amazon review is frowned upon, but this should take you to the Realtek website (it's in Taiwan). Click "Software" then "Others" then scroll to the lower right corner and hit "Global". This will start the download. Install this driver, as you would any other driver, and then reboot your Mac.
Giving this device 4 stars. Would give 5 stars if they used a different Ethernet chip instead of the Realtek, it would be nice to have a higher performance chip (especially given the improved USB 3.0 speed of this USB hub), and it would be nice to have a chip that worked "out of the box" without requiring a driver download.
Top reviews from other countries
My one and only gripe though, is sort of important, hence taking off two whole stars. The part where the cable connects to the main body of the hub is extremely stiff, and comes free from the body very easily though normal use. If you keep the cable still and rarely move it, this would not be an issue, however, I primarily use mine for travel so it needs to be in my bag quite often. Will most likely have to purchase a new one soon, though I will be contacting Anker to see if they will replace it.
If someone from Anker is reading this review, I would suggest making the connection between the hub and the cable more rugged, and use a softer rubber in order for the cable to have some give when it is bent back and forth (instead of just ripping from the hub like mine). Or even better, make the cable swappable, like your desktop usb hubs. This would make this product into the ultimate portable usb hub.
EDIT: I contacted Anker support with this issue, and they were very prompt and professional. They sent me a new USB hub as a replacement to my damaged one, free of charge. They also informed me that they currently working on designing a fix for the cable stiffness. VERY impressed by Anker's customer support. I have changed my review to 5 stars, because of the added value of Anker's superb customer support to the product.
Other notable facts :
The hub is silent.
The hub emits a bit of heat.
The lights continually blink for the ethernet so you might want to keep it out of sight if you don't like that.
If perchance one of your ports doesn't support power out you might have a hard time plugging in several external hard drives that are mobile... the ones with no power supplies. (I have not tried this yet however.) I'm just saying this because one of the ports on my mac can only sustain low power out since the high power out has been disabled since an issue with charging with a jet tech cable my iPhone a few years back which damaged the port but the mac disabled power to avoid further damage.
The three ports permit me to have a small hub setup in which I plug in my scanner, printer and vertical mouse which I don't carry around with me. The other free usb port ends up being used for external hard drives which I don't like spinning all the time and my mobile mouse when I want it.
