Abraham (Bram) Stoker was an Irish writer, best known for his Gothic classic Dracula, which continues to influence horror writers and fans more than 100 years after it was first published. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, in science, mathematics, oratory, history, and composition, Stoker' s writing was greatly influenced by his father' s interest in theatre and his mother' s gruesome stories about her childhood during the cholera epidemic in 1832. Although a published author of the novels Dracula, The Lady of the Shroud, and The Lair of the White Worm, and his work as part of the literary staff of The London Daily Telegraph, Stoker made his living as the personal assistant of actor Henry Irving and the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London. Stoker died in 1912, leaving behind one of the most memorable horror characters ever created.

Information includes such things as contemporary recipes for dishes that Harker describes and contemporary travel reviews of the cities he passes through. Contemporary maps give you a sense of the space the novel takes place in. Drawings such as the type of carriage used cements the image in your mind. All this research was done in the early 70's and it must have been a monumental undertaking in the age before the internet.

If you are interested in the novel, which is reprinted from an original printing, you should pick this up. It really is chock full of things that make the book worthwhile.

The classic book is not changed at all from its original form...and I mean that not only regarding the story but the text looks like copies of the original book pages. Each page has annotations...defined terms, what the foods are made of that they eat (we would have no clue just by the names), pointing out pivotal parts of the narative...or you can ignore it and just read. Yes, you can get Dracula for free on your Kindle but this book breathes so much more into the story.

If you are a student this will guarantee you an A.

My family has owned and loved this book for over 40 years and I just recently bought my own copy of it.

I highly recommend this if Dracula is your cup of tea.

Excellent edition with amazing ink illustrations. I would have given it 5 stars had the annotator, Leonard Wolf, been a tad less pedantic.

The definitive source for studying Dracula. Complete with train schedules, maps and detailed explanations of terms and references as well as illustrations and the the text. I have used this in the past as reference for teaching Dracula in my high school literature class, and I was overjoyed to find a hard copy version of the text

If you like the original Bram Stoker classic novel as much as I do, then having "The Annotated Dracula" will enhance your reading. Almost all of the mysteries Stoker included in the narrative are explained with the use of footnotes, maps, photos, and drawings. All that's missing is a narrator. This book is a "must have" for the serious Dracula collector or for high school students who have it as assigned reading.
