This book contains a complete set of the 650 pupil lab sheets, reduced in size, that appear in the workbooks of the Miquon Math Lab Materials. The intervening text indicates the objectives of the sheets and ways in which the pupils may use them. Included are preliminary activities, teaching suggestions, and followup activities for practice in applying the concepts. Where the procedures and objectives are apparent at a glance, lab sheets are not annotated. Answers to only the most difficult or the trickiest problems are provided in the annotations. The "Miquon Teachers Manual: Lab Sheet Annotations" book -- an integral part of learning math the Miquon way -- is a one-time purchase -- as it covers all six of the student workbooks. The Lab Sheet Annotations are just that -- helpful, informative, illuminating descriptions and examples... Very few "answers" are given in the Lab Sheet Annotations -- which is a plus -- moms and dads can discover the joy and simplicity of math in a way that they've probably never experienced it before -- along with their children.
I can't imagine a better way to discover the patterns and concepts of mathematics. I highly recommend the Cuisenaire Rods, Miquon Student Workbooks, and the Miquon Teachers Manual: Lab Sheet Annotations. Your student will be introduced to such concepts as multiplication, division, fractions, and factors in the FIRST grade -- all while "experimenting" (playing) with their Cuisenaire rods!
NOTE: In response to another reviewer's opinion that "The down side to this book is sometimes the workbook sheets that are reproduced and reduced in size in Annotations, are not easy for the student to follow." -- While all of the Student Workbook sheets are duplicated -- in a reduced size -- in the Lab Sheet Annotations for reference, the intent is for the student to use the very reasonably-priced, consumable Student Workbooks.
