There are a lot of techno-thrillers out there; a good number of UFO conspiracy novels; and a choice few Philip K. Dick-like explorations into consciousness-bending experiments. But I have NEVER come across one book that manages to pull off all of these at the same time. In Anomaly by the prolific Hugo Navikov, scientists are conscripted into service by a TOP-top secret agency within the Department of Defense to go down to Antarctica -- IN WINTER, mind you -- and investigate the real-life "gravitational anomaly" thousands of feet below the permanent ice shelf. It is no surprise to find that few things are what they seem, but what really sets this book apart is the "other-mind" sections, when the consciousness of the scientists is melded with those of alien "hunters" as they stalk prey all over the solar system from millions of years ago.
Just an excellent, excited, mind-altering read! Really well done, Mr. Navikov
