Bethany really surprised me as I got to know her. She had a innate strength and sense of purpose and I loved seeing her begin to change her life. Sarah came across as so sure of herself and in control at first. Finding out about the real woman beneath was a revelation. Their story left me feeling all mushy and full of the joys. It was romantic and emotional and the sex was erotic and frankly beautiful in its intensity. I highly recommend ‘One Way or Another’. 5+++ Stars
I was given this ARC for review.
Sarah has been playing the love them and leave them routine for so long that she’s forgotten how to relate with any sincerity.
Bethany is no pushover.
She knows what she wants so sparks fly while these 2 figure things out.
.I really liked the interaction between Sarah’s Aunt Evelyn and her friend/helper Jonathan.
It is a fun,easy read.
The characters are developed well. The author gradually reveals more depth to each one, and the reasons they are the way they are. There is a lot of talking which both annoyed and engrossed me. It slowed the book to the point I was frustrated, but it was necessary to see how the characters develop together. The two are surprisingly frank and honest with one another, once they get past the initial problems they have. Bethany, the timid teacher, is not at all timid when it comes to telling Sarah what she wants.
There is an emphasis on safe sex because Sarah had many one-night stands. It’s good to address the need, but I was frustrated with it because the women used dental dams and condoms but followed their safe love-making with open mouth kissing. Saliva transmits STDs, too, although not as many. The characters did discuss having gotten tested in the past, but they should have been tested in the beginning of their relationship so they would know kissing was safe, too.
My quibbles aside, I enjoyed this novel. The secondary characters were sketched well enough to be believable and lovable, too. The plot unfolded well and the romance was believable. I liked the twists in the bedroom scenes. It’s an entertaining read, as usual for A.L. Brooks.
I received an Arc from Ylva for an honest review.
