Bhakti Bliss, Divine!

Antarayaami has been my favorite album from the first day I played it. Nina's voice brings me directly into my heart and deeply into a state of devotion that has lasting power to help me move through my days with more ease, gratitude and love for myself and all beings.

If you want to learn the Hanuman Chalisa, or simply keep it very close to your heart, I highly recommend keeping this collection of devotional music in your player and near your ears at all times. This is THE CD I listened to over and over to learn the Hanuman Chalisa.

When I am feeling blissful I play this album to take me more deeply into my joyful heart and when I am having a really hard day, I play this album to remind me who I am so I can feel comforted by these beautiful devotional songs and strengthen my faith and trust in the process of life.

I keep this album with me at all times and never part from it, just as I wish to never part from the Divine! I feel blessed every time I listen to this album and I have gifted this album more than any other album in my life. This is the most wonderful gift you could offer another being.

I have been a fan of Krishna Das and lover of Nina Rao's version of the Hanuman Chalisa on his Flow of Grace CD. I listened to the sample of Vinayaka on Amazon, and based on that, purchased this CD set. I was not disappointed, to understate it.

I found myself singing along to the Hanuman Chalisa, Track 1, Disc 2, the first time that track played on my CD changer, even though I had never heard that arrangement before. This version is very melodic and earnest, and expresses a loving longing for the Divine as only a female voice can. A flowing gentle river. Nina builds this up, carries it through, and finishes it off quite expertly - she is under-publicized. KD himself sings backing vocals on this track, and layers it with a richness to result in an arrangement having impact as only the two of them can achieve. It is refreshing and bewitching. It is not as intense as KD's versions of the Hanuman Chalisa which gives it its own unique power.

There are lot of variations of the Hanuman Chalisa on Disc 2, in fact it is all Hanuman Chalisa and Sunderkand, with the exception of Vinayaka at the very end. You could say one or two tracks on Disc 2 are filler.

Disc 1 is a collection of devotionals that feel like one long suite. You get up from listening to Disc 1 feeling like you've attended a great, uplifting bhajan session.

The overall arrangement merits a 10, despite 1 or 2 nitpicking momentary lapses of polish lacking a fraction of a second. Nina has a great voice. Her way to hit the higher notes without being a soprano or tenor works for me. This is an honest and sweet recording that isn't over-engineered with overdubs. It feels like each track is one take, not necessarily a "first take."

She has such a beautiful voice. I firt discovered her through Krishna Das, on his album "Flow of Grace" I could not stop playing Nina Chalisa. As soon as I could, I purcheased this album, which also has a rendition of the Nina Chalisa on it. Wonderful music.

Rare Among Western Kirtan

It seems these days that so many Western groups turn kirtan into a performance event and an offering to their egos rather than to God. In contrast, Nina's chanting, with its "traditional" call and response kirtan framework, stirs the listener's heart with longing for the Divine Beloved. I have to be honest, though, I'm not as fond of Krishna Das' vocal. Years ago, I fell in love with his "One Track Heart" and still frequently listen to it. But in the last few years his style seems to have drifted into moan and groan territory (Sorry, KD.) But, that's a minor personal distraction as the sincerity of all the musicians on this CD make it a joy. Thank you Nina and crew for sharing this musical prayer with the world.

Very soothing and perfect for those times of devotion, introspection, meditation, or just peacefully sitting having tea watching over the horizon. Nina has a divine gift to share with us all. Am Completely Taken With This.....

I have wanted to write this review for a few months, but do not feel that I have the words to do Nina and this CD justice. I am listening to the CD right now as I write this, and as always, am feeling completely taken away, taken to a place that feels like home, at least as close as I have ever experienced. I feel deeply affected by the calm, rock solid grounded-ness, and a strong sense of sincerity, and devotion coming from Nina, and All. Thank You, Thank You!!

Do yourself a favor, and watch the video of Nina and All performing this, and you too, may be taken away......

Better than Live- But- Live is also Amazing

I have had the blessing of being present when Nina Leads kirtan and all I can say is that i have just bought the album and been enjoying so much I can't let one song finish before jumping to another! Devadas Labrecque and Nina did an excellent job with production, Naren Budhakar on tabla is clear and easy to follow in its intricacies, and as always, Krishna Das's voice is a treat. I would praise all the musicians but must go sing now-
Jai Hanuman!

I first heard Nina Rao chant on Krishna Das's CD Flow of Grace and was quite taken by her voice. I bought this CD for the additional versions of the Hanuman Chalisa which are lovely, especially her duet with Krishna Das on Ocean of Ram Hanuman Chalisa. The other tracks are very uplifting as well and include chants to Krishna, The Divine Mother, Vishnu and others. Her sweet voice is rich with devotion, yearning and joy - it moves me very deeply.
