USDA Organic products must be produced using farming practices that maintain and improve soil and water quality, minimize the use of synthetic materials, conserve biodiversity, and avoid genetic engineering, among other factors. Crops can be certified organic if they’re grown without prohibited substances such as most synthetic fertilizers and pesticides for three years prior to harvest. Products that contain a minimum of 95 percent organic ingredients and use the USDA Organic seal are part of Climate Pledge Friendly.
About our Organic Black Chia Seeds:
Cha-Cha-Cha-Chi..our lawyers tell us we can not legally finish that phrase. Seriously, who would have thought that after, what is it, like 30 years? - the stuff you used to smear on a rock like cream on a bagel and watch grow, contains omega-3 and protein?
Chia seeds are small oval seeds that absorb a large amount of liquid, creating a gel-like consistency. This makes them perfect for replacing eggs in a vegan recipe, making chia pudding, or for thickening soups.
They’re full of fiber, healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals! A great addition to salads and oatmeal, a wonderful egg substitute, and an energizing addition to your favorite beverage, chia seeds are very versatile! Our chia is gluten-free and free of GMOs.
Add these versatile seeds to your favorite juices, sprinkle them on salads and oatmeal, or give your smoothie bowl a little chia kick.
High fiber - A 28 gram serving of our chia seeds has nearly 10 grams of fiber. The gel-forming fiber contained in chia seeds is great for digestion and appetite balance.
High protein - There’s nearly 5 grams of plant-based protein in an ounce of chia seeds. This keeps you energized and full, and is an especially good way to get protein when you don’t have time to cook.
Good source of omega-3s - In a world where most of the fat we eat is damaging to the body, it’s a good idea to load up on healthy-fat containing chia seeds! A 28 g serving of our chia had over 8 grams of healthy fats.
Good substitute for eggs in baking - Because of the soluble fiber in chia seeds, they’re great for egg substitutes. Just combine 3 tablespoons of water with 1 tablespoon of chia seeds and let sit until nice and gelled. This can be substituted for one egg in many baked goods recipes.

When I finally got through my current supply of chia seeds and went to open this bag, which I’d purchased months earlier, my first thought was, “I don’t think this was vacuum sealed when it arrived.” My best guess is that either the packaging wasn’t sealed properly and some moisture got in at some point, or some of the pests that other reviews mention lived their best lives for as long as they could with the food supply and air they had. I’m debating whether to open it before discarding, but either way I will not be eating the contents of the bag I bought.
