Top Customer Reviews
The first one leaked and spit. However, my perusal of the reviews demonstrated that I had approximately a 75 % chance of getting a correctly functioning one. So I returned the faulty one. Amazon had a great price on this iron to start and replaced it at no additional cost to me. Very nice deal! It works better if you don't fill it to the max line and don't slosh the water around. Allow it to start steaming in the ironing position off of the item to be pressed, so if it does spit it isn't in contact with your item. My old Sunbeam no drip iron performs better but the digitals are turning the heat up or shutting the iron off while in use.
Update on this iron's performance 2/1/2013
After only four uses, this iron began to spit and leak spotting and streaking the fabric. It is supposed to be able to steam even on a cool blend setting, but it was malfunctioning even on the highest setting. I'm very disappointed. I'll just have to go back to dry ironing. Don't risk buying this iron.
The second design flaw is with the water reservoir. For some odd reason, it lifts up toward the top of the iron, so you can't fill it when the iron is standing on it's end. You need to turn it off, unplug it, and tilt it with one hand while holding the lid off and pouring with the other. Not sure who decided that would be a good way to design an iron.
I'm not going to return it, because as I said, my clothes look fine with it, but I just don't like it as much as my previous iron.
I've only used the iron a few times, and as it's my first one and time ironing, I can't attest to the performance compared to other irons. The operating instructions supplied with the iron satisfactorily explained how to set up and configure the iron with one (1) exception. The instructions did not address how to rotate the Variable Steam Control Dial, instead only stating "Move the Variable Steam Control Dial to the maximum position" in the "Before First Use" section. Trying to figure out how to rotate the dial was annoying because the instructions didn't address how to rotate it, and the outer edge of the dial, coated in a very slippery plastic frustrated me as I kept trying to rotate the dial without success. Ultimately, I figured it out after several attempts of trial and error the dial has a safety mechanism similar to a childproof safety cap on a medicine bottle. Push the dial in (around the 6 o'clock position) and then rotate counter clockwise to turn the steam on. Rotating the dial clockwise to the descaling position didn't seem to require pressing the dial in, but then again you have to hold the dial at this position to descale the steam chamber.
The control buttons, LCD display and audible alerts make using the iron simple. The iron works as expected; it removes wrinkles from clothes. As long as this iron doesn't fail anytime in the near future, it'll be a great product.
One performance criticism: the iron has dribbled a bit of water on lower temperature settings (e.g. 5) when using the burst of steam function, however it doesn't dribble water at higher temperature settings. I don't know if this is typical of all irons, but I know if the temperature is too low to create steam then you're not going to get steam -- I imagine this temperature setting is not high enough to consistently get steam.
