I spent so much on feliway diffusers and I think that's a waste of money for my cats and I will have to keep up with the comfort zone spray (that's the only thing that works) and the anti icky poo because it totally takes away the smell! Use a black light when you're doing the treatment.
Through the years, I tried a couple different enzyme products, but got frustrated with them because I'd have to mix just the right amount of enzyme with just the right amount of warm water, pour on the urine spot, cover with a damp cloth and make sure the urine spot remained wet for a required amount of time. I grew tired of that, and started using white vinegar, but it didn't get all the smell out. Now, 13 years later, I read an article about Anti-Icky-Poo, and decided to go for it. The deciding factor was that it doesn't need to be kept wet. Off and on, in about 6 weeks time, I managed to use a quart of it on some urine spots on our closed in porch. Imagine my surprise when that nasty smell was finally gone from the porch!!! This stuff works! I recently ordered the gallon size & haven't had to use much because I'm also using Farnam Comfort Zone Feliway Electric Diffuser with 48-Milliliters Imitation Cat Pheromone. My vet sold me some Feliway (75mL) Spray several years ago.Read more ›
Also, as a side note, I found this stuff works great with my sparring gear as well. When training the gear gets really nasty from all the sweating and I have found that even putting it through the washing machine didn't fully eliminate the smell. Stinky sparring gear is not only nasty to wear, but it's not cool for your training partners either. Well, one day I figured I'd try the anti icky poo on my gear and it worked better than anything else I've tried in the past. They sell all sorts of expensive cleaners specifically for sparring gear and they don't work half as well (I won't name which ones I've tried). It even gets the smell of smoke out of your clothes too. Definitely worth having a bottle in the house at all times.
Anti-Icky-Poo arrived today. I ordered it because I remembered it had been useful when I took in an abused puppy several years ago. (Accidents happened several times a day until he learned he didn't have to be afraid of me.) I took one pair of pants that had been washed and dried about four times, but the smell remained. All I accomplished with all that laundry was to bake the smell into the fabric. I sprayed the pants with Anti-Icky-Poo--enough to wet the fabric, but not soaking wet--and set them aside for three hours. Then they went into the laundry.
It worked. The smell is gone. The rest of the laundry will get the treatment tonight and get washed tomorrow, and I've diluted some Anti-Icky-Poo with 3 parts water to soak the carpet at the bathroom door.
I don't like the perfume smell, but it fades fairly quickly and it's a whole lot better than stale urine smell. Anti-Icky-Poo works too well to really complain about that. And of course I get funny looks when I tell anyone what product I'm using. Usually that would be bad, but laughter has been kind of scarce around here lately. So for that I'll give a sixth star.
3/15/10 edit: I pulled a beautiful white robe out of the dryer this morning to find it not only smelled of urine, but was stained an ugly yellow. I didn't know it was stained before I washed it. AIP removed both the odor and the yellow stains. It's worked well on the carpet and every towel and item of clothing I've tried it on. Still very happy with this stuff.
