If you're a fan of antiques and collectibles, you'll want this book. It really delivers. My perennial favorite areas are ceramics and glassware, and there's a healthy dose of both inside. In fact, both of those giant categories have been revamped with new information and new, larger color pictures. I also applaud new sections on cookie jars, figurines (which includes Hummel, Precious Moments, and Wade), Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments, and Little Golden Books. Nice touches, bringing the book into the 21st century of collecting.

I am a longtime price guide buyer and have had Antique Trader in my library for years. This new edition edited by Eric Bradley is the best edition in several years. I could tell right from the start in Mr. Bradley's Introduction that he was bringing a new perspective and new voice to the book. Very impressive. Love the new look and expanded content as well. If you are new to Antique Trader you will discover that the book is packed with color photos. The book offers thousands more than Kovels', which I also have. Really enjoy the new direction and the expanded category introductions. Wonderful mix of emerging and traditional collectible items. My favorite is the lunch box section because it brings back many fond memories.

I've long loved antiques (and sell them on a part-time basis), and own many specialized price guides, but have always stayed away from this type of annually-published book which contains a wide variety of categories.

However, I happened to see this one, and was impressed by the range of categories represented, some of which I have a particular interest in, and others which I'd like to learn more about - so I bought it.

I'm glad to have taken the leap. The book starts out with several, very current articles. One dealt with which types of vintage costume jewelry are currently very popular, and which ones are seeing declining sales, based on the experience of several longtime jewelry dealers. I found it very useful, as vintage jewelry is one of my favorite areas of collecting.

Two other articles explain how to identify furniture styles, and how to evaluate collectible art. I found them all well-written and insightful.

The bulk of the book is broken into categories, each spotlighting a range of items and their recent sale prices. All the photos are clear, in color, and large enough to see detail.

Categories include advertising, banks, Barbie, baseball, baskets, bottles, ceramics, Coca Cola, Comics, Currier & Ives prints, decoys, figurines, furniture, glass, Hallmark ornaments, Kitchenwares, jewelry, perfume bottles, lunch boxes, silver, LPs & 45s, toys, vintage clothing, watches, zippo lighters - and a number of other categories.

There's truly something here for everyone. And flipping through this book, you may become aware of things you didn't know much about. I think it's a great value for an education about current values over a wide range of categories, and I've already gone back to it many times, and learned a lot, since buying it.

This is the first book I have bought for looking up antiques. I love the photos and feel that it covers a wide selection of merchandise, however nothing I wanted to look up was in there. I would say it is a good book to add to your collection if you are into antiques but for the novice person who just wants to find out the value of the items passed on to them you would be better off paying a little more for a book with a wider selection.

I am very pleased with this book. We are avid collectors of just about anything (not hoarders though)and it is nice to be able to research the current value of some of the items we already have.

Perhaps if I bought this guide annually the entries would make more sense. But for a person with antiques and collectibles trying to get an idea of their value for insurance purposes it is useless, and I cannot imagine how a dealer could make much use of it either. The featured valued items seem to be chosen entirely at random and not for the convenience of the user. Sorry, Amazon, but this is not a book anyone should buy without carefully reviewing its entries to see if their particular interests are covered in any kind of relevant detail.

The guide is a decent beginning but since I was specifically interested in Christmas collectibles and ornaments, it did not completely meet my needs. If I had gone to a bookstore and looked at the book, I would have known that it was limited and perhaps searched further for something move valuable for the price.
